Anyone else thrown off by the name a little?
Is it a play off "gold rush" and "go west"?
And why is copper the higher valued metal when the name is Gold West?
Things that make you go "Hmm..."

I don't know what Alex Kevern intended, but the name is reminiscent of two things:

"Old West" & "Go West"

Copper is not the most valuable resource, Gold is.

But isnt Copper worth more in endgame points?

Metals aren't worth any points at end game (unless there is a Boomtown tile that says so - I haven't seen all those yet)

No.

The terrain where you find copper is worth more, maybe that's what you're referring to.

Look at the bonses on the shipping track, and the VPs from the Investments - Gold is worth a little more than copper. That's balanced out a bit by the area majority for gold terrain being worth less than the copper terrain.

Seth is correct, it was intended as a play on "Old West," and others have found it reminiscent of "Go West" as well. I also liked the aesthetic of the title -- I often base my games around a particular number; for Gold West, that number was 4. You'll find it used in a few different areas of the game, so it was fitting that the title "Gold West" was made up of two words with 4 letters.

As Seth also mentioned, Gold is the most valuable resource in shipping and investments (followed by silver and gold), though the copper terrain is the most valuable in end game scoring (followed by the silver and gold terrain).

I found the title to be really clever and pithy.
