Was browsing a message forum I frequent today (runs all gamuts of gaming, mainly PC and console, but lately folks have started talking about board and card games). One individual posting there just bought the following games:
Runebound and all expansions
Arkham Horror and all expansions
Doom and expansion
World of Warcraft and expansion
Warcraft and expansion
War of the Ring and expansion
Catan Card Game
Axis and Allies Revised
Duel of Ages
Age of Mythology
Conquest of the Empire
Betrayal at House on the Hill
Holy frijoles. In one fell swoop he bought more games than I own at the moment. I'm in awe.
Anyone else ever buy in a chunk like that?

All my family has given up getting me gifts for Chistmas so they just get me gift certificates from etailers ... A great time to have gift certificates as all the new Essen games are just making there way across the pond ... add a few bucks of your own and let the fun begin !!!
This was my order just a few days ago ...
RUM & PIRATES
Leonardo da Vinci
Thief of Bagdad
Games Quarterly Magazine #10 (Fall 2006)
Carcassonne: The River II
FOOTBALL TACTICS 2006
The phrase "More money than sense" springs to mind.
Or am I just bitter?
Just last Friday I put in a an order at Thoughthammer for $332.24, it was a combo order from my wife, my grandparents, and FOR a friend. Granted the game I ordered for him was only about $17.00 of that total. I usually only get to make orders of any size around Christmas. The rest of the year, I will spend $20 here, $20 there, but usually no more than that at a time.
I've never gotten quite that big, but this was my biggest order:
7 games for myself
2 expansions for myself
4 games to give as gifts
And the Geek shall Inherit the Earth
I am the unholy trinity: Agnostic, Atheist, and Skeptic.
Well, I dunno... what's big? is it number of games or overall expenditure? because if the latter, I think I qualify for something with this one:
Go Take A Hike!
...a shameless plug for the 'Shipments' topic on my website.
I like to collect digital images of game shipments on my site and I'd be delighted to post images of any order but especially those big ones!
To submit an entry, just follow the directions at the top of the following page:
My single biggest order is from November 2004:
1 x Shadow of the Emperor
1 x 7 Ages: 6000 Years of Human History
1 x Vinci: The Rise and Fall of Civilizations
1 x Mystery of the Abbey
1 x Carcassonne: The City
2 x Carcassonne: The Count
1 x Fearsome Floors
1 x Domaine
1 x Evo
1 x Hansa
1 x Heart of Africa
1 x Keythedral
1 x Maharaja
1 x Medici
1 x New England
1 x O Zoo le Mio
1 x Pirate's Cove
1 x Primordial Soup
1 x Quo Vadis
2 x Ticket To Ride
1 x Coloretto
Not as impressive as the list Jowjow found, but it was quite a bundle!
I think I'm more focused on the individual number of games/boxes than expenditure, although I'll betcha my original listing is up there cost-wise too.
(Unfortunately I can relate on the Magic front as well, having bought boxes of Ice Age at a time back when I was into the game. Ugh. Never again)
With what DW Tripp refers to as "Grandma Money", I just bought all 13 Federation Commander boosters as well as Klingon Border, Klingon Attack, and Romulan Attack from Thought Hammer. Since I was making such a big order I also tossed in Hellas (that I've been wanting now for a long time), the Chessex Dice Boot, and three more GMT Games counter trays. All for just a few cents over $200.
I picked up Romulan Border during the holidays and KNOW that, as an SFB old-timer, I'm going to LOVE this game.
In oktober we bought the following from allgames4you.de:
Auf die Palme
Das war der Wilde Westen
Der Elefant im Porzellanladen
Die Baumeister des Krimsutep
Heckmeck am Bratwurmeck
In 80 Karten um die Welt
Take it easy 6 Personen
Thurn & Taxis
total 325,32 EUR, so free of shippingcosts :-)
At the same day we ordered from milanspiele.de:
Vom Kap bis Kairo
So ein Hundeleben
Kurier des Zaren
Labyrinth - Die Schatzjagd
Die Pyramide des Krimsutep
total including shipping EUR 157,30
in december we decided we couldn't live without:
1 x BattleLore = 59,95
1 x Gang of Four = 7,95
1 x Queen's Necklace = 12,95
1 x Fist of Dragonstones = 12,95
1 x War of Ring:expansion = 33,95
total 134,25 euro including shipping
And I bought Manila, War of the rings at my FLGS,
and a couple of games at a secondhandstore
Obviously, we don't have any other hobbies, and three children who love to play!
Looks a lot like my orders I do every time I travel to the States.
Usually I end up with 20-30 games per trip. It is so much cheaper in the states compared to Sweden.
The biggest problem is to cut down the boxes nicely so they are in a rebuilding state when I get home. Quite time consuming to cut down that amount of boxes. You want to do it properly so it will look ok later.
Also the amount of flattery you will need to muster towards the girls at the check-in disk, so you don't have to pay for the overweight you have. Three times, three strikes so far .
Must be my enormous amount of skill in that area.
Impressive buys, people. I only wish I had both the money for purchases that size and the time to actually play them all. I definitely consider myself much more a player than a collector.
the spunk plus the bomb plus the pump plus the torture instrument times frankie equalling the bang is an exclusive piece of ZTT exploitation
You don't need eyes to see, you need vision. (mj)
My biggest purchase last year was on my trip to Essen. I came back with:
2. Thurn und Taxis
4. Mauer Bauer
8. USA 1910
9. Die Säulen von Venedig
10. Project Kells
11. Space Dealer
15. Maestro Leonardo
16. Der Schwarze Pirat
17. Funkenschlag Benelux expansion
19. Bolide tracks
20. Mission Red Planet
It's now januari and only USA 1910, Bolide and Krumble remain unplayed. So I'm ready for some new games I think!
May 2018 be all you dreamed it would be and be all that you dreamed...
Ow come on now does size really matter?
Please do not throw aspersions on the size of my....games collection.
More impressive than the size of the purchases is that you manage to play all of those games! I still have games that I bought a year & half ago that have not been opened.
Meanwhile, here I am with 20 or so games to my name, all played, and I'm antsy about the fact that one of them I've only played twice since I got it. Go figure!
I only wish I had both the money for purchases that size and the time to actually play them all. I definitely consider myself much more a player than a collector.
Well that is one of the problems. Being in a country where the games usually cost more than the double compare to the States.
This makes a big purchase a huge saving every time I can do it.
I also think on myself as a player more than a collector. But as prior stated you will end up with a lot of games that take some time to play through.
This is on the other hand a pleasant problem.
