Halloween movie, or a Christmas movie?

The director says it's a Halloween film:

http://www.ew.com/article/2015/10/19/nightmare-before-christ...

This seems definitive, but it's been pointed out to me that George Lucas has said crazy stuff about Star Wars too and we all just politely ignore him (like "laser swords" vs. "light sabers").

I could actually see it being called both, but I think it's more Halloween than Christmas.

Why does it have to be either. It is simply both, what is the problem with that?

Because if it isn't one or the other, then how are you supposed to hate the other view, you mealy-mouthed, centrist piece of shit?

What is your view? I need to know which of the two views I hate.

Clearly it's a Christmas movie for the disenfranchised. If you aren't the type to enjoy "It's A Wonderful Life," then you need a movie that speaks to you. That's what The Nightmare Before Christmas was intended for. If you are using it for Halloween, then you are neither in the hardcore scare movies, nor are you in the family friendly movies like "It's The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown."

And it's just like a watch-Nightmare-Before-Christmas-on-Halloween neophyte such as yourself to think it should be anything else.

Uh, all the major characters (minus a small appearance from Santa Claus) and 99% of the tone and imagery are Halloween-focused.

Is this even a question?

Since it's obvious and the director has also stated it as such, no, I don't think it's a question no matter how many question marks you may put it on it.

It's both since both holidays occur during the narrative and are the dual focus of the film.

But, Halloween is the first 2 minutes of the movie. The rest of the movie is preparing for Christmas and actual Christmas.

It's not either/or, it's both/and.

In our house, it starts playing in October and is in heavy rotation until the new year.

It's "Christmas" preparation done Halloween-style. As I said, 99% of the characters are Halloween-style characters and 99% of the theme and tone is Halloween-focused.
