I was thinking of concocting some sort of tick-box sheet to mark down how many squares a vessel moves in its turn (no more than 18 for a destroyer in calm seas etc.) to minimise going over the movement allowance. This would work especially well for the subs I think; max of 14 squares, but only 6 if in shallow water...

Thematically - having to use pencil and paper harks back to the 60s and 70s

We used a cube to mark the starting square and a d20 to record the 1st half move up to the SONAR search.

For what its worth, I've uploaded my tick-box tracker idea to the files section - subject to geekmod approval! No idea how long it might take, or if it will get approved, fingers crossed.

Don't worry, I won't take offence if people think it's superfluous - I just felt inspired to mess about with Open Office spreadsheet then export it as a pdf. I found a free font which is damn close to the main TCU font too!
