So my buddies and I get a TI3 game going once every month or two. The trouble is one guy just moved for work and another will be gone in a month. We really like the group of guys and we want to still game together.

A couple of us can remember the good ol days of play-by-e-mail games like VGAPlanets and what not. We were thinking of trying to get something like that going, but are a bit clueless of what to do. I was hoping to get a recommendation from someone here. Some of the things we are looking for:

- 4-10 player PBEM. We would like to have our own game and not have to jump into a huge game with a bunch of other players.

- A wargame. Sci-fi setting would be nice, but not mandatory.

- The game could be played with about one or two e-mails a week. This is what kills Vassal for us or any other method of PBEMing a board game, those are way too e-mail intensive. Ideally the game should progress reasonably with only a turn a week or so.

- Oh yeah, not too much money would be nice too.

Hmm....

So, any recommendations of a game or a resource to find one would be great.

If you are interested in PBEM Diplomacy, you could do worse than look at http://www.dipbounced.com You should be able to set up 'closed' games without any problem. Needs seven players per game. Costs absolutely no money.

http://www.diplom.org can also point you in the right direction.

Not everybody's cup of tea, but a game that lends itself perfectly to PBEM.

The dpjudge is arguably the best way to play online diplomacy. Excellent graphical web interface with full email support.

TI3 is very much playable as PBEM, through Vassal and with a mediator.

Check out the TI3Wiki for details.

I'd play in a Vassal game of TI3! By email at least.

I used to play VGA planets back in the mid 90s and I just started playing recently again. Here is the site my friends and I are on.

http://www.rcworld.de/

You have to run a test turn and send it in. If all goes well you will be approved and then you can join up to 2 games. I haven't talked to the site maintainers but my buddy has and he says they are going to run a game just for us when ever we can get everyone to sign up. I'm sure they would do the same for your group. Of course you may need to get registerd copies of the client again but that is still easy to do. You can go to the web store on Tim's VGA site and buy codes there. If you by 5 or more you get a discount. I think its $15 as opposed to $20 per copy.

This is off the cuff, but it seems like Dune might work via e-mail.

If you need a player, I also would be interested in TI3 via email Vassal.
