So this surely has 8-sided dice!

shake Actually no, they're 6-sided.

OK, but there are 8 of them.

whistle No, just 6.

Then you play for 8 rounds.

Make that 6 rounds.

wow You have 8 different scoring possibilities...

arrrh Hrmm, no.

cry 8 actions...?

cool Nope!

devil So, why on earth is this named "OctoDice"???

At some point you can or have to catch Octopus.

This game is a dice game "based" on aquasphere, where you had octopus, that have eight legs (octo means eight). So you have dice and octopus, octodice

That's right.

Come on! What's so hard to believe? "Octopus" ... "Octodice"... First we thought of "Aquadice" als a name because of the thematic closeness to Aquasphere. Would you have expected the dice to be made of water then?

No complaints about the name here. I am really looking forward to trying this one out. But I think I would have preferred "AquaDice."

(Dice made of dry ice would be cool)

I had a phone conversation with a friend about the game (I had bought and played it, he had never heared of it). What I wrote is a somewhat "satirical" version of that conversation.

BTW: When I first read the title I was thinking about 8-sided dice... whistle

Stefan failed to include more actions in Aquasphere - so I was two actions short of filling an 8-sided die.

If you look at the box art, the name becomes obvious... Octopods wouldn't be able to hold a pen and scratch their head if there were eight dice, the poor things.

If you wanted to get technical and use a latin-based prefix to denote that there are six d6's and 6 rounds, the game would have to be called Sexodice. Somehow, I don't think it would go over very well.

This game popped up in the New To you Geeklist for December and I felt sure the number 8 would feature somewhere in the game. My thinking was completely along the lines of the Original Post.

FWIW, my girlfriend gifted me this game for Valentine's day just because it was named "OctoDice" and had an octopus on the cover :-D Cause she loves octopodes and dice games (and had never heard of Aquasphere before).
