I preordered mine through boardgamebliss. I need to see if I can cancel that order because I have no idea when it will come in. Dang it...

Yeah. I am wondering if I should just buy the Amazon copy and sell my pre-order in a month and a half.

Crap...got 2 on order from Splotter for the second print which sounds like it'll be here in a month and on a day that ends in Y between now and then... Tempting to just order this and sell my other one whenever it gets here for the same price.

I too was going to order via BoardGameBliss, but they're sold out.

I was then considering pre-ordering a 3rd print run copy (end of December) which is going to correct a few typos and misprints, but those errors appear to be so minor I'm quite happy to get my hands on a copy much sooner.

Well, I am glad I got my order in with them when I did then!! Their price is great compared to $119.99 US. Plus, I bundled with a couple other games for free shipping. December can't come soon enough!!

Yes, a good deal for Canadian customers - here in the US we'd still have to pay postage, so the Amazon purchase (free shipping) is not too bad considering the game should be in hand next week.

That's for the 3rd print run at the end of December, so at least a two month wait.

But at least you'll have it. Because given past Splotters, when those 118 are gone...not so much.
Actually, we have 450 copies left of the 3rd print run. We are selling between 10-50 copies a day (also to retailers, which do not show on the site) at the moment.

Cape Fear Games has 32x more copies coming in that are currently in or just released from customs. I'll post back here when they are in stock. We do offer Free Shipping in the US on Board Games purchases over $100. The coupon should apply automatically.

Wth... $120 for a board game is ludicrous. Why is it so expensive!!? I was interested in this until I saw the price. NOPE.

And yes I know what it comes with. Caverna comes with more components than this and is considerably cheaper.

Or buy 80$ worth of playing cards. You cannot beat that ammount of components for the price

For some, the price is about more than the component's though.

Food Chain Magnate is a limited-run product made by a small game company, hence the price is more expensive than you'd expect from the components alone.

Also, the game actually is priced at only $80, that $120 has some extra import costs included. At $80, Splotter has already sold two printings, so it doesn't look like the price is too high.

That is certainly your prerogative. I won't start the worn argument about game quality and such, because it would also mean that first time authors would have to sell their product with massive discounts; and that you'd be entitled to some sort of refund if, according to the Gaming Hivemind, a known author or publisher effs up. (There have been plenty examples of the latter.)

That said, Splotter does produce games with very interesting gameplay, far more so than the run-of-the-mill worker placementer with yet another little twist on how influence is placed or recalled. But I do not believe that this gameplay is 'caused by' or 'correlated with' the high price: Splotter is simply a small publisher with a low production volume. They have been in business since whenever, despite creating games which appeal to but a small segment of the gaming market only. That would indicate that their business is financially healthy at least (enough to pay for visits to Spiel amongst many other things), and that is not something every game publisher can say, let alone if they specialise like Splotter does.

Although I have no plans of purchasing this game, I have purchased a few others of the company, and am patiently awaiting the reprint of another few. Yes, the boxes are bloody expensive for the material you get; more so if you are used to prices of games from larger publishers. But I'd rather have that money stuck in cardboard which offers fairly unique gameplay than in several other games which just rehash the same ideas over and over again. Your mileage may (ought to!) vary; and if you think $120 is too much, I can certainly sympathise.

It is expensive. It is just a boardgame. There are loads of other board games out there that are a lot of fun, and cost less. I paid quite a bit for The Great Zimbabwe, a game from the same company that makes this game. Zimbabwe is one of my all-time favorite board games, and for me, that money was well spent. I don't think anyone is going to be upset, or judge you if you come to a different conclusion.
