Hi all,

So I'm looking for an easy to set up and play card game to play with my parents but is also good for just 2 players. That means games like No Thanks! won't cut it.

(I know there's loads of traditional trick-taking/crazy eights style games you can play with a deck of cards but I was wondering if there's any interesting alternatives out there.)

Thanks in advance.

Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you'll land among the stars, where you will be forced to drift aimlessly farther into the vast, empty abyss of space until a lack of food, water and oxygen causes you to succumb to Death's cold embrace.

Jaipur works for 3 players actually. There were some threads suggesting reducing hand size by 1 I think, but other than that just play clockwise and you're good to go.

Star Realms- I think this can be played with 3 players if you have 2 decks..

I've seen several people say that Traders of Osaka is like 2-4 player Jaipur.

It might not be original but what about Splendor ?

Simple rules and easy to learn collecting sets game. I find Splendor to work best with 3 actually and everyone I have taught it to have liked it immensely.

Arboretum has the feel of lost cities and plays up to 4.

[EDIT] Dang, beat to it by 1 min, that's what I get for typing.

True that. I played Splendor with two, three and four and have to say that three players games were the best. If you are looking for quick Jaipur-like game for three players I would recommend Splendor wholeheartedly.

also missed the obvious Lost Cities: The Board Game which plays very similar to the card game and supports 4 players...

Battleline has a three player variant. Two other Knizia games that are great three player games include: Poison, Circus Flohcati. Lost Cities also has a board game version.

Get Biblios. Simple rules but great depth. It's awesome as a 2 player game, and even better as a 3 player game. I bought this game after reading so many good reviews about it, and was a bit suspicious that it might have been over-hyped. But it fully deserves all the credit. My girlfriend is addicted to this game and asks to play it all the time now!

Sobek is a very nice set collecting game similar to Jaipur that plays 2-4. It's kind of cutthroat with 2p though.

-- edit --
And you can play it on boardgamearena if you have an account there, a good way to try it.

If you want Lost Cities that play for 2-3 players you want Knizia's Hungry.

Lanterns: The Harvest Festival has a Jaipur-like score stack (selling/dedicating a set sooner scores higher with subsequent scores each scoring less). Played 2,3, and 4p and all are good in different ways.

Hungry plays like Lost Cities for two or three.

+1 Traders of Osaka.
+1 Biblios.
+1 Archaeology: The Card Game.
