Our play group, whenever we play Smallworlds, speculates about how great it would be to play with X combo. In an effort to create a way of playing specific Race/Power combos I have developed the following rule variant.

Races and Powers are introduced to the game as normal, five of each and they move down as ones below them are taken. If a race and power are picked that occur next to each other (ie race 2, power 2) the standard game rules would apply. If however, a player opts to pick race 2 and power 5 than they pay an added fee. It would look like this, for race 2, power 5:

Player pays the standard 1 coin for race 2. They also place 1 coin on the first power, but because the power they want is separate from the race, they will pay an additional coin for each power the skip over, in this case totaling 9 coins played (1 coin on race 1. 1 coin on power 1. 2 coins on powers 2, 3, and 4).

Thoughts? Sorry if that was a confusing description.

I wouldn't play like that since some combos are almost unbeatable.
But it´s always fun to make different house rules

Well it's not really house rule. It's scenario 11 special rule.
