See The Infinite Board Game and The Infinite Board Game Review for additional context.

I *think* I can put a sheet of vellum over the tiles to mute the colors and increase the contrast before putting pieces down for Alien City.

Since the values of the tiles are completely unused and the orientations are random, it shouldn't matter which corner needs to be built last, just that there *is* a corner and it's easy to determine without lifting pieces.

Regarding the green/yellow mismatch, a search and replace in the rules worked, and that makes the player caps black and green.

I'll post a picture after I figure out where to get some vellum.

Tracing paper is much easier to find:

Board state taken from the rulebook's scoring example.

Wouldn't wax paper work too?

Any partially opaque paper will likely work in this fashion, so I should probably also mention parchment paper and tissue paper.

Also, paper soaked in some liquids (oil, grease, etc.) will be partially transparent, but likely not fit for this purpose. :-D

The right paper for you likely depends on how transparent you want it and what you have on hand.
