Heroes of Normandie plus Achtung! Cthulhu Expansion

Scenario 1A: "Something Smells Funny Sarge!"

I played the US and Section M forces and used my own solitaire rules, including the as yet untitled ‘flowchart/bot’, to control the Germans and Professor Konrad Boelter.

I had played this scenario many times before whilst tweaking the solo rules and yet I learnt nothing. The direct route along to the objective became a corridor of fear and death as Boelter summoned Zombie Unit after Zombie Unit every turn clogging up my main advance for several rounds.

The random chit draws for German activation did not seem at all random as the German forces moved down from the North, targeting my troops and whittling them down despite me holding several of the Defensive Position (giving my troops Opportunity Fire) for most of the game.

I was lucky to claim an additional Order as one of the Tactical Objectives and used it to great advantage to take out the AI commander limiting their Orders in the second half of the game.

Boelter kept making those damned Zombies though and even a few specialist ones (Zombie Dogs and Fat Zombies) came out of the bag. My improved Terror rules meant there was a real sense of trepidation simply moving my units as LOS to a Mythos Manifestation meant an instant Suppressed token for non experienced units.

Eventually a few lucky rolls coupled with me sending some units around the other side of the cemetery meant I managed to get within range of the objective with one turn to go.

I thought things were lost when Boelter used his Suppurator and removed a slice of reality taking one of my Support Units with it. Thankfully the dice Gods favoured me during the German’s AI final Supply phase and nothing major happened. And, on the very last turn, I was able to storm the objective with a half strength Support Unit by way of a “Burst Into Action” card. Huzzah! Victory for the Allies!

All in all it played great, it was the first time I’d played this scenario using the solo rules without stopping to write them as I went (although I did make a few notes for v1.0c).

It was fast paced and pretty close. I can't wait to continue the Achtung! Cthulhu campaign into scenario 2A, "Going Underground".

You can find my the dicussion and download for my solitaire Heroes of Normandie rules, Alone Against the Tiles, here on BGG and I encourage you to give them a try and let me know how you get on. They currently work for standard Heroes of Normandie as well as Achtung! Cthulhu with specific Solitaire Briefs for five of the scenarios from the base game as well as the first Achtung! Cthulhu scenario detailed above.
