I'm trying to buy the game for friends of mine in Canada. It looks to be sold out everywhere. Does anyone know of a game store in Canada that has it in stock and will ship?

So the short answer seems to be "No", it's not sold out in Canada.

So it seems that it is now pretty much sold out in Canada.

Amazon still has it

but at $70.

Funny thing is that there are plenty in USA (Amazon US, Cool Stuff Inc).

FLGS is out too, and they seem to have no clue when more will arrive. I would normally assume this meant the initial print run has been depleted, but with the availability in USA this seems unlikely.

The unfortunate thing is, the current exchange rate seems likely to have a pretty negative impact on this game's sales in Canada. I've been wanting to get it but the $40 USD price translates to about $60 Canadian if I cross the border to buy it and, since most FLGS need to account for added fees and such for getting product over the border it tends to be around $70 Canadian in stores here.

And it's really hard to bring myself (and I imagine others feel the same way) to pay that kind of money for a game they will play 4-5 times then need to spend another $40-$45 Canadian for an expansion to enjoy further or put in hours and hours of work making a scenario for it... but then you can't really enjoy it since you know all the quirks of that scenario since you made it.

I have a similar difficulty with the Legacy games (like Pandemic Legacy) except with those you do get a good 12 games out of it before it's done.

A scenario is 20 GBP, so in Britain we pay about the same as you Canadians (and I think it's worth every penny).

I'm poor but I paid 40€ for the game, 28€ for scenarios, and I don't regret it. People often like to do the movie ticket comparison, but Time Stories is the first game that I would honestly compare to movie tickets. It's that good, cinematic experience. Don't worry about price, skip all generic euros this year if you need to, but it's worth it.

My FLGS had it for $52 CAD in November, so I doubt it would be more than $60, maybe $65 now. Board Game Bliss has it for $49 before they sold out. There have been a lot of games that have jumped in price (Caverna, 504) but I still think high volume retailers would have it sub $60.

The ones in my area, and Amazon, have it priced at nearly $70 ($69.95). Most of them are sold out as well.

People looking for a copy in French can head to Archambault, they still have plenty (had 5 in stock at the local store when I picked mine up).
