could somebody tell why this game
goes for about 45 Euro?

I really like the game and i also like the game on iOS but
thats a hefty pricetag for the components.

Am i the only one complaining about this fact?

I think that's a mistake on Target's website. At least, that's where I'm seeing a similar price. It's only like $10 on amazon.

If you want tons of free cardboard, you can go to your local grocery store and ask them if you could take some of their packing boxes home with you (just tell them you're moving, don't let in on the fact you'll be playing Neuroshima Hex with the cardboard - they might charge you 40€).

This game sells for about £25.00 in the UK although the MSRP is about £30 - which is still less than the amount you are quoting - and the UK is generally more expensive than France/Germany for games.

It's possible you are still seeing the price for stock for the edition that ZMan was still involved with - there is a newer Portal only edition and this is cheaper. I think there is an EU-VAT issue where non-EU companies are have games published in the EU and then sell them in the EU, in that in these cases they are not able to reclaim the VAT charged by the publisher, and therefore pass that cost onto the customer. If they sell the products outside the EU they can reclaim the VAT - so ZMan having editions published for the US is fine but not if it's being sold in the EU.

I am part guessing the above maybe part of the reason and would like confirmation this is the case - it was why Treefrog (now based in New Zealand) shifted production from Germany to China and I think was partly behind the parting of the ways of Czech Games and ZMan.

I'm trying to figure out why a baby costs so much money. 8 pounds of mostly water, and they never stop pooping.

The component quality is top notch in this game. Good heft, great artwork, and very nice rule book. You get your money's worth, no question.

I got my copy for $35 on Amazon. Spot on pricing.

I postponed buying the board game because I also felt it was quite expensive considering the app's only 5€.

But I'm really glad I finally got it. I definitely prefer playing it as a real boardgame, so it's totally worth it, imho.

Army addons are around $10, but the game itself is $38.

You are doing yourself a disservice by judging the value of a game based merely on it's component count or quality.

You are paying for art, game design, development, play-testing, and fun.

You are also paying for printing, distribution, stocking, and shipping.

A good game is more than the sum of its parts.

In the case of NH, I found the digital version lacking and hard to wrap my head around. The cardboard version is the opposite, and easily in my top 20 games of all time. Worth every penny spent.

It IS thick, shiny, and colorful cardboard, however.

Only the Z-Man edition with the additional Doomsday army is €45 in Germany. The German/English Portal edition is €30 and worth every cent.

Thank you all for your replies.

I didn´t want to sound like uncle scrouge or a nitpicker.

and i know that i have to pay the artist, the designer, the workers, the shipment... i have worked once with truant spiele as an freelancer

So should I grab the version without the doomsday army then?
30 Euro seems like a really good price point for this game.

BTW i did not complain about the "former" high price of a component similar game called The Dark Orbit

I know that games designed by chech, polish or frensh people are indeed very different that my normal german/english boardgames.

Kinda refreshing
