In 48x games there are no fights in cities. Players trading houses coexist without conflict.
The question that came up while we were playing 483 was can residents be recruited or moved into a city you have a trading house in? If the answer is yes, then an army can avoid fighting by staying in a city. In fact you could end up with residents from multiple players all hanging out in the same city.

Or, are cities a no go zone for residents except for trading house construction purpose?

I believe you can build or move residents to cities you have a Trading House in such Worlds, yes.

The rule is that there are no fights in cities, so they would just cohabit, just like they do in the non-Military Worlds.

How do you score for a city in 48x game?

In the rules it says you score 5 VP for each *own* city.

Does that mean if you coinhabit a city with another player that neither of those two players scores for that city?

Hmmm... the writing of the rules seems pretty consistent with the concept that 'own' is used for things that only you have and nobody else, so I'd be inclined to believe your reasoning and indeed say none of the players on a shared city would score, even for capital cities!

Of course, the intention might be the city simply has multiple owners, so I don't think we can come up with something conclusive without Henning's or Friedemann's input...

We decided to score it otherwise namely that you score for every city you are in.

The reasoning being that if you can only score for a city where you have the only settlement then you would only score for your capital at most.

Hmm, the barracks being in every free city actually makes that a guarantee in most 48X worlds and you may even lose your capital points if you let others build trading houses there...

As a counterpoint, giving 5VP to every player that has a trading house really skews the balance of the game. As cities are worth almost double the VP of other tiles, if you give VP to every player with a trading house in a city, then the majority of your scoring is going to come from buying trading houses instead of fighting. That seems very odd for a World that is meant to be driven mostly via its military.
