Yep, it's true. Haggis has been banned in the USA since 1971 because it contains sheep's lungs, but that might change. (You know what else contains sheep's lungs? Sheep. And they're not banned from America.)

Quote - "Tens of millions of Americans want to enjoy Scotland's national dish."

Run, don't walk, to your nearest Scottish deli and you too can enjoy the parts of a sheep that were left over even after the dog food people had gone over the corpse.

I love the idea of a Scottish Deli, McKosher.

This also conjurers up images of tartan clad trucks speeding over the Canadian boarder going to Och easys were Americans can get an illegal fix of Haggis.

I find it odd people would willingly eat this, and the amount of traditional poverty food passed off as modern day delicacy.

That's implying about 10% of the US population wants to enjoy this.

Maybe it's right? I don't know, but I can say the concept has never sounded that tasty to me. But then again, most "delicacies" don't, including caviar, escargot, live octopus, and even things like chitlins.

Could just be me being finicky

We already have "tweaked version" of haggis it's sold by McKean's from Maine and it's very tasty.

http://www.scottishhaggis.com/index.aspx

I'm willing to bet a lot of money that 9 out of 10 people that say it's gross have never tried it. I'm also willing to bet that if I stuffed a chicken or turkey with it and told them it was a really tasty stuffing and not what it really is they would enjoy it. I've done this BTW and they were shocked when I told them after dinner.

What Haggis is made of is no more/less gross than what might be found in processed meats like hot dogs. The big difference is it's not highly processed.

I think that all right-thinking people in this country are sick and tired of being told that ordinary, decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am.

When I lived in Tulsa I was a member of S.C.O.T., the Scottish Club Of Tulsa. One of the other members used to say that he would rather eat a haggis than a hot dog, because he knew what was in a haggis.

I used to do radio and TV shows to promote the Games in Tulsa, and when a host would make some remark about how nasty haggis sounded, I would ask them if they liked hot dogs or baloney. Usually they would say yes. I would then tell them "Hot dogs and baloney are made from the parts of an animal that the Scots think are too nasty to put in haggis." That made them stop and think.

Can't say I find myself eating hot dogs often, or at all. Nothing wrong with using ask the animal at all, I in fact encourage it. They are not tasty though, imo.

You will be able to enjoy a proper Burns Supper on 25th January.

'Ye Pow'rs wha mak mankind your care,
And dish them out their bill o' fare,
Auld Scotland wants nae skinkin ware
That jaups in luggies;
But, if ye wish her gratefu' prayer,
Gie her a haggis!'

Don't worry, it also involves Scotch, the finest Scottish export of all.
