Looking to create a lot of game charts (complexity = Asl war game level) using my Mac OS. Don't really need anything as full featured as Illustrator, any simpler cheaper tools recommended? Thanks in advance.

Inkscape works on vector graphics, like Illustrator, and it is free. It can set up complex shapes, gradients, transparencies, layers, and a host of filters/effects.

Scribus is a free page layout application more suited to making a magazine but can be used to make complicated layouts.

I'm using both now on my Macbook. Inkscape for my card backs (for a drop shadow on a logo to show on the background) and Scribus for the card fronts (for complex card elements).

I had used Illustrator and QuarkXpress in the past but can't afford/justify buying them now. I don't use them enough to buy them.

Hey guys,

i would suggest you just try InDesign and/or Illustrator (CC). You can
try it 30 days for free and if it fits your needs you donĀ“t have to
buy a full version. Now they have this businessmodel in which you "rent"
the program(s) for each month. So you only have to pay for it when needed!

If needed, you have to pay between 10 and 20 Euro/Month. Depends on
what programms you want to use and how long you are going to rent it..
