I came up with this variant as a response to the possible gaming of the
clairvoyance track and the possibility of the ghost dumping cards to cycle through them.

And just to make things harder.

During set up, the ghost sets aside one of each of the possible characters, locations, and weapons. This is known as the Evil Spirit stuff.

During the game, if a psychic picks a character/location/weapon that is part of the Evil Stuff, that psychic moves backward on the clairvoyance track a number of spaces equal to the number of cards the ghost showed him this turn. You can go negative.

Results of this? Choosing a wrong character/location/weapon on purpose might still help other players if they use their clairvoyance tokens correctly, but you will be shooting backward on the track. And thanks to that card dump by the ghost on you, you'll be far, far behind.

Hey Mike. While this will penalize both behaviors you are targeting, you will also be nailing folks who just honestly chose your Evil Spirit stuff. Our gameplays have proven the clairvoyance track is hard enough to climb without us going backwards on it.

Let us know how this playtests though!

This is all true.

Obviously the ghost should avoid any clues that might direct a player toward Evil Stuff. Of course, accidents will happen. But there is a counter-balance in that the Evil Stuff, now revealed, has narrowed the number of suspects (or locations or weapons) that are in question. So at least some general knowledge is gained at the expense of a player's personal loss.

But yes, it may be too severe for most people.
