I've been using "BattleBrik" as the name of my game for awhile now, but I've recently opened up the concept a little to embrace more than just battles...

The general description now is an "indie tabletop miniatures skirmish/board game for LEGO® minifigs". Battling the minis is still a key concept, but players can win using other methods as well.

Some alternate names I've thought up are:

Minifig Faceoff
Minifig Playoff(anybody remember LEGO X-Pod PlayOff?)
Minifig Melee
Minifig Mayhem

Of those names (and the original BattleBrik), which do you like the most?

Any other suggestions?

Thx

Re: Help Name That Game
BattleBrik is certainly the best. Brick Attack is actually good too, that somebody mentioned.

Why the funky spelling of "Brik"? Usually, a unique spelling or new word for a trademark name is only useful of you have the resources to market the brand and promote the new word. Otherwise you are making it harder to search and explain. "Battle Brick" is probably the better name, if that isn't already a thing in the toy brick industry... Which (quick search) looks like it is. Well... I am not a lawyer, but I dont think respellings alone differentiate trademarks. Ie, don't open a restaurant named MacDonnell's. I dono if you are competing in the same space as this other Battle Brick, but that's a good reason to think about a different name.

If you do go with a new word for a name, make sure you use a very descriptive tagline/subtitle so people know what you're talking about.

For what it's worth, a 'minifig' is definitely a small fruit, if you ask me. Battle Brick or Brick Attack are much better names.

This was originally a play on the existing game BrikWars and it kind of stuck.

LOL. Minifig is short for minifigure.... but yeah, I could see the confusion .

Re: Help Name That Game
BattleBrik is fine, but no one except you knows what Brik or minifig or minifigure means.

Those terms are not in our vocabulary.

It's fine to use those terms, but don't expect them to mean anything to the rest of us.

Minifig is a common term among Lego fans, so the target audience would be well familiar with the term. Brik would also be familiar, but probably less so.

Re: Help Name That Game
Based on your design diary, it looks like this will essentially be a set of rules for people that already own the necessary LEGO. Is that correct? If so, using LEGO terms is fine.

That said, I feel "brick" (regardless of spelling) is overused for LEGO related-stuff. I visit LEGO sites every day, participate in forums, etc., and see the term so often that anything including it doesn't stand out very much.

Personally, I like Mini Melee or Mini Mayhem, in that order. I don't know if "minifigure" is a trademark, but I'd be wary of using "minifig".

Re: Help Name That Game
Wow, great feedback everyone.

I had not thought of shortening minfigure/minifig to just "mini".

Also, I am liking the "BattLE GO" play on words. Overtime though I think that clever little thing would get lost and it would just be "Battle Go!" ...which isn't too bad either.

Remember to abide by the LEGO® group's legal requirements for use of their name. Be aware that because of knock-off compatible bricks, the LEGO® group is fairly aggressive with regards to their patents, trademarks and copyrights.

They are also really good about supporting fans and fansites that follow their rules.
