In the #2 scenario of the Slimer Campaign the rules state that on an event die roll that corresponds to a closed gate: "A Ghost in the Spirit World is replaced with a Ghost 1 Class higher from outside the scenario."

This raises a couple of questions:

1) Is there any order in which the ghosts need to be replaced? When ghosts come out of the Spirit World and onto the board, you start with low Class ghosts until they are gone and then go up from there (p.7) ... Does that mean that when you *replace* ghosts, you need to start by replacing Class 1 ghosts in the Spirit World with Class 2 ghosts and then once you've replaced all the class 1s step up to replacing all Class 2s with Class 3? Or is it up to the players' discretion?

2) What happens when/if you cannot replace any more ghosts in the Spirit World with higher-class Ghosts? It seems like this could a scenario-losing event (as is sometimes the case when you hit a component limitation in games) but the rules state in multiple places (including the rules on the scenario card itself) that the only lose condition is not having any ghosts *in* the Spirit World when the game requires a ghost to spawn.

3) Related to question 2 but not specifically to this scenario, what would happen if, say, enough Gruesome Twosomes 'combined' via their special ability that there were no more Boogaloo Manifestations for them to turn into? There is only one other Class 3 ghost that exists (Librarian/Gray Lady) and there are no Class 4 ghosts yet. Does that mean that eventually 'boss' ghosts like Slimer (Class 5) would start popping out to satisfy the requirements for higher Class ghosts?

I know this situation is improbable but it very nearly happened to me when I played just now, and because it seems like rushing to close the gates is a better strategy than trying to control the number of ghosts on the board (and since combinations come from 'outside the scenario' and not from the Spirit World), I feel like its very possible to have a board full of ghosts and run out of components this way long before you're in danger of losing from the Spirit World emptying itself.

Hi Lawson,

Thanks for playing and taking the time to verify the rulings.

1. Your intuition is spot on. The replaced Ghost is the next level up. So a lost Class 1 is replaced with a Class 2. If you have the Kickstarter Ghosts and have different Class 2 Ghosts, you can roll odd/even for which get in. If you have Impossible Mode version of Ghosts, the Impossible Mode takes priority.

2. In this case, if you have exhausted all remaining Ghosts, you get a free pass and do not lose the scenario. The "Scenario Results in..." rule is the final word. Of course, if you have access to another copy of the game...

3. Yes, if you run out of Class 3 Ghosts, then the merged Gruesome Twosomes would start bringing in Ghost Bosses!

We encountered situations that you are describing from player who rush the board objectives and are happy with the tension it provides. If you run a strategy and it works out, you deserve its spoils.

We have 4 Boogaloo Manifestations (class 3 ghosts) in the spirit world and we have to replace one of them with a ghost 1 class higher from outside the scenario. But there aren't any class 4 ghosts available; does this mean Slimer (a class 5 ghost) appears?

That was already answered with this:
