GW announced that in the next couple of years they will be bringing back BFG, Blood Bowl, Necromunda and others. No other details yet, but I can now take this off my "Want in trade" wish. I can wait for the new one.

They are 5 years too late. Now we already have Star Wars: Armada and other great space battle games.

Armada was not a replacement for my BFG experience. Luckily I already have two full fleets, I am sure I am not the only player that prefers BFG.

This is great news, as I love BattleFleet Gothic... the only thing I wonder is what more they can do with it? A little rules tweaking and balancing, but they already released pretty complete fleets of models that look really terrific. Just curious what they're planning. Can't wait for more details!

Also, there's just no comparison between SW Armada and BFG. Will be nice to have a supported awesome starship fleet battles game (in addition to Full Thrust etc) again

Jackasses? You let a whole column get stalled and strafed on account of a couple of jackasses? What the hell's the matter with you?

I own a BFG Imperial fleet, and I've started getting into Armada. I much prefer Armada to BFG, and my boys are big fans of the game.

Maybe I ought to consider selling off my old BFG fleet, since we're having so much fun with Armada.

That's a pretty big assumption that 1) BFG will be one of the game re-released, 2) that the miniatures will be available before we all die of old age, and 3) that the Forge World prices will be less than the current eBay prices.

"New Edition Announced" is a bit hasty of an assumption. The general Specialist Games announcement has done the rounds on Australian and European GW pages. The more credible sounding ones say we won't actually see anything for about 6 months.

BFG getting a Video Game should have been sign enough that the tabletop game is coming back in some form. I wouldn't be surprised to see them simply import the metal casts into resin and have Forge World take over everything that isn't plastic 40k and AoS.

Well, it was announced by Games Workshop on their app that BFG will be coming back. So, yeah- it's not hasty. As most game companies announce well in advance of release the fact that it isn't coming back next week is not a surprise. I imagine the other games announced, like Necromunda, will be spread out over a couple of years time.

But it is coming back and I will get a copy.

So, OK, it's been a year now since this initial announcement about the resurrection of BFG. Where is it? Did this turn out to be a hoax? Did GW change their minds? Or, is this still on the horizon????

Just lean back and relax. Keep in mind what GW has released many good (board)games since this announcment a year ago. We got a new Blood Bowl, Calth, Prospero - not to forget Silver Tower, and even more.

So from a "boardgamer" point of view GW has done very nicely and they will release the new BFG for sure.

Games Workshop has released a "Boxed Game" every other month [or more] this year. Up until Bloodbowl launched just last week, everything they've done have been "low hanging fruit" type games: existing miniatures or miniatures that were going to be made anyway, all bundled together with boards, cards and rules to play a game of variable quality. With few exceptions they've all sold extremely well, if nothing else than for the savings on a huge pile of miniatures.

Bloodbowl was always stated to be first, after that many assumed Necromunda would be next since it has the easiest crossover potential for 40k terrain and miniatures. But anything's possible at this point. 1-2 weeks advanced notice via a leaked White Dwarf is usually all the internet can muster these days.

Isn't actually announced yet. They just offhandedly said they'd be making it in the future. So far only Bloodbowl has actually come back.

Thread Title really ought to be changed.

This! I have so much scepticism toward GW that I never will buy another GW product again. It's over ten years since my last GW purchase. I rather put my money to Star Wars or other games.

Yes. I own BFG and nearly all the 90's editions of GW's games but I'm done with GW. There's so much more stuff and games out there. ^^

Well, it's now 2018 and no news about the reprint. So, is this still in the works or did GW decide not to go forward with this one?

Apparently it was discussed in passing at the Horus Heresy weekender.

It's worth noting that both the new Adeptus Titanicus (pretty mature, apparently just waiting for production slots) and an updated battlefleet game will probably be produced under the horus heresy banner.

For the former, definitely; the rulebook is apparently slated to be a Horus Heresy-style black book (with suitable art & background production values) called 'Titanomacht' or some such; essentially pre-seige-of-terra there was one massive multi-legion titan engagement.

Other races may be added in later (apparently they have a working draft for orks) but they're doing loyalist vs traitor first and trying to get that to work, which simplifies 'core' models and lets them focus on shiny variants, alternate weapons, etc.

A friend who attended said that an off-hand comment was made about fleet combat and that apparently there was a major space battle ("Sea of flame?" something like that? Phall is the biggest naval engagement I know of mentioned so far.) that was sort of the equivalent for the battlefleets. Now that may have been talking about something we'd see in the novels, but it might be what ends up coming out; again, loyalist vs traitor makes sense for a core rules set because it's easier to balance (Chaos vs Imperial was the engagement the game was designed around, after all).

I'd be interested to see what they did; combining forge world's more recent molding ability with the object being resin not a lump of metal with the size of ship you can support on a flyer stand (compared to an old land speeder stand) means that if the cruisers are more or less the same size, it's not unreasonable to get stuff like the Macragges Honour, Vengeful Spirit and Phalanx to scale....
