I'm looking for a non PVC playmat. A simple starfield will do, but all the ones I find are made from PVC and don't roll or fold well. I was looking for a UK based distributor of a rubber backed or similar style playmat.

Anyone got something good they can recommend? Something that doesn't hold it's shape (as it will be rolled up for a while! :-) )

Fabric shops often have starfield prints. It's not expensive, can be rolled up.

Dark Sphere seem to stock some non-PVC ones:

Try deep cut studios mats - I played Armada on one the other weeks, and it was a great, rubber backed mat:

Make sure you choose the "Mousepad Mat" version

Edit: I see it's the same as the one above. I think Deep Cut is the orginal manufacturer though.

I really like the plain black yoga mat I got at amazon. It's 6x3 and I cut it into two 3x3 X-Wing mats. Very nice grip and inexpensive @ $22 (which makes two 3x3).

Considering painting stars on it - but I actually am partial to just black.

Any chance you can provide link to it? I see some that appear to be acceptable, but I'm not certain about thickness options and the surface textures. (Don't wish to order something that will be a terrible choice!)

Thanks!

Definitely worth trying these folk:
http://www.deepcutstudio.com/

They're based in Lithuiania rather than the UK but they've got a good variety of nice designs, sizes and materials.

This is the one I purchased (twice). I use one as a 6x3 mat for a big table we have for pretty much *any* gaming we do and the other as 2 3x3 X-Wing mats. I cut this with a rotary cutter and a long metal t-square and the rotary cutter went through it like butter and perfectly cleanly.

Wanted to return to this thread to thank you, Masterhit. That mat is great, and affordable. Great tip!
