I am working on a custom card pack for my game. I have decided on using the 1911 Turkey Red Tobacco cards as a base. I am thinking that my first pack will be:

1. Ty Cobb - OF
2. Tris Speaker - OF
3. Naploean Lajoie - 2B
4. Sam Crawford - LF / 1B
5. Roger Bresnahan - C / CF
6. Frank Baker - 3B
7. Eddie Collins - 2B
8. Willie Keeler - RF

9. Cy Young - RHP
11. Walter Johnson - RHP
12. Christy Mathewson - RHP
13. Mordecai Brown - RHP

Also thinking of maybe adding:
Tinker, Evers, Chance, Waddell, Bender

Maybe Mgrs Jennings and McGraw...

Made a rough draft of Ty Cobb:

Given the limited amount of space, do you think I should try to add nicknames (e.g. Georgia Peach & Big Train) or leave them off? Also, instead of using the BotN card size, I used the Turkey Red ratio. I didn't go full size TR as they were big at nearly 6"x9". I used about the same ratio to shorten to 3"x4". Still bigger than the cards in the game but not unwieldy. I think I like keeping that ratio actually...

Next up I'd like to do a set of 1914 Boston Garters or maybe 1915 Cracker Jacks. Then perhaps 1934 and/or 1938 Goudeys if the first couple sets don't kill me!

That looks gorgeous!

Without even owning the game (maybe next Spiel?), this made me for some reason think of and long for a custom set with Who on first, What on second...

Baseball has endless ideas!

Bingo Long and his Travelling All-Stars
Major League the movie line-up
A League of their Own line-up
Bad News Bears line-up (original not the remake crap!)

Movie Players (Sand Lot Kids, Mr Baseball. Doc from Field of Dreams, Roy Hobbs from the Natural, Bull Durham players...

Even some event type card from Damn Yankees would be fun!

I tend to favor historical team ideas like:

Old Negro League Players
A cursed 1919 Black Sox Team that is nearly impossible to win with
1927 Yankees that are nearly impossible to lose with
All Steroid Team
1800's era team
Sets from my favorite Baseball Card designs (like what I am doing)...

Those look great! My father actually runs a vintage baseball card business, and I think showing him this game (which already catches that vintage nostalgia) would make him go over the top about it. Thats a great idea.

what is your method of printing going to be? where are you having it done, what type of card stock, etc...

Thanks!

He should sell the game at his store! He could demo it for the customers as it is a very quick playing game. I bet a lot of baseball card collectors that aren't gamers would love it and buy it (especially this time of year) if they had a chance to play it!

Where is your father's business? Does he sell a lot of pre WWII stuff?

I have an Epson 3800 (Pro level) ink jet. It can take quite heavy card stock so I plan to print myself. I need to check today to see if I have a thick enough medium (I usually do) and if not I will buy some.

Before I start printing though I wanted to get a little feedback on the backs, traits, design, etc...

Like in my other thread, if there is any interest, once completed and tested, I can either make my files available or print and mail. Geek email if interested...

Okay, starting to play with the new players...

I got a few emails that I will reply to. Epson Matte Pro paper has better color but Staples Card Stock is more rigid. Depends whther you like a stiffer more durable paper or a brighter sharper image...

I'll give it a look but for my purposes, I think the Matte Stock will suffice...

Do you have a scan or closer photo of the score card? I would love to track my games on that pad but was not able to get the All Star Pledge. If you can't scan I can re-create it but I'm not sure what those fields are.
