Recently played a game in which the Gate Keeper was out during a Mystic Barrier phase.

The Gate Keeper incarnation removes the Portal from the village until exorcised, preventing villagers from using the portal.

The Mystic Barrier phase allows a player to either discard a moon crystal to save a villager at the top of the stack on the tile with the portal (Not possible since portal is now on the Gate Keeper's card), OR save a face up villager from any other tile if there aren't any villagers on the portal's tile...

The rules and FAQ don't seem to address this unusual scenario as far as I can tell. In the end, decided that the portal MUST be in the village to save villagers and moon crystals are simply another means of getting a villager to the portal during a Mystic Barrier phase.

Anyone know if this is the correct way to interpret Mystic Barrier + Gate Keeper?

Based solely on the F.A.Q.’s statement that the Mystic Barrier can’t save villagers while the portal’s tile is haunted, my guess is that it can’s save villagers while the portal is gone either. (Not an official answer, but it fits.)
