In light of recent discussion of cubes around here, I thought I would go ahead and post the results of a recent project that consumed an awful lot of my freetime for a few months, my intermediate cube: http://boardgamegeek.com/filepage/125406/delirimouses-interm... .

This is a cube pitched at intermediate players (so this sits somewhere between my core set cube and a traditional expect set). To be eligible for inclusion a card needs to be available in a modern frame (but need not be from a Modern legal set), and needs to use no ability words and only evergreen keywords.

I keep the cube sorted by rarity with 4 copies of each common, two of each uncommon, and one of each rare/mythic, and then deal out packs for use in either draft or sealed.

There are support archetypes for each color pair, but it is certainly possible to draft/play other archetypes within those colors:

WU: Fliers
WB: Sacrifice
WR: Tokens
WG: Beatdown
UB: Control
UR: Spells Matter
UG: Self-mill
BR: Aggro
BG: Grindy advantage
RG: Ramp

I was able to purchase all the cards for this cube (rares included) for a total of about $75 (although it was incredibly tedious typing them in and took many hours).

Included off to the side of some sections of the list is a (sometimes short) list of alternatives for a section. These are not part of the list, they're just there as potentials to swap in. Usually this happened when there was a slot or two I wasn't thrilled with, and so I went digging for a bunch of options.

I highly recommend building a cube, I think I have rarely had so much fun! It is really what got me into game design.
