I hope this happens; my questions are: How was this game company able to do what others (e.g., GMT) were apparently not able to do? And what will happen to it in the remaking? Will the board turn into what Compass did to Bitter End? The gameboard is so, ahem, "bright," copies are used in light-houses around the world. goo

You hope what happens -- the re-release or the crash?

Valley Games did a great job with the release of Die Macher, so I wouldnt so quickly jump to an expectation of disappointment -- I suspect it will be excellent.

I think it's awesome that Valley Games is re-releasing Hannibal. It's a good game and the prices on the secondary market are exorbitant. I'm sure they will do a great job with it!

If I understand correctly where this stands, there has recently been a shift at Hasbro and they are selling old properties either back to the original IP owner or whomever offers cold hard cash, and not even very significant amounts of it. Wouldn't surprise me if the rights to Hannibal were sold for the low tens of thousands.

EDIT - in fact, considering that the pre-750 method most likely establishes that number of copies sold as near the breakeven point, that a game like this costs, say, $15 to produce/ship, and considering all the other costs (including to Simonich!), this puts the estimated cost for IP rights at $10K-$20K. Don't know if my math is right but it can't be too far off if my assumptions are correct.

If the game comes out and the mapboard looks like the remake of Bitter End from Compass games--My eyes!--then we will have both: a re-release and a tickety-boom crash. goo

I have Die Macher from Valley Games, and if that is any indication of what is to come from Hannibal, I think we will all be very happy.
