Where are the old nickels? Where are the old pennies?
There were tens of millions and and tens of millions made.
Do they turn to dust? A buffalo nickel with a visible date is a prize.
Wheat pennies are at a premium.
Are there that many couches?
Is some fool squirreling them away?
Must be.

It has been reliably estimated that there are about 14 tons of pennies contained in all the landfills of the US. Along with about 1 ton of gold.

If they are pre-1965 and contain silver that is worth more than the face value of the coin, you better believe people are stockpiling them as the State keeps printing Monopoly money.

I met a bloke from the UK at a con, and he had a bunch of his larger minis based on 2 pence coins. "You're using *money*?", I asked. "You can use large washers and get the same effect."

"True", he replied, "but not for 2p each."

This was quite some time ago. Are those coins still obscenely large? I recall them being on par with the Canadian dollar coin in terms of size.

A 2p is about a inch across.

And yes, that is why I was using coins, it was cheap them buying washers. Now a number of discount shops sell washers that are a little cheaper then the coins you use to buy them.
