How does this, and similar cards, work? Does it provide some kind of extra distill action which allows me to distill all my (in this case) nitrogen in addition to the normal distill step. I am asking, because otherwise the ability to distill all nitrogen cards would be no big deal.

Exactly, yes.

When taking a normal DISTILL action, you play this card to DISTILL all (N) in addition to your regular DISTILL.

When I first saw the word "Adsorbtion" on this card, I thought it was a typo for "Absorption".

But it is not a typo!
