Mixed reviews in iTunes stores.

Anybody have experience with this app?

4 stars is "mixed reviews" now?

There are only a few reviews, and at least one is one star seemingly because it has a different, but perfectly functional, rule for taking a loan. I suspect you will be happy with the app if you aren't someone who loves Steam, but hates Age of Steam and Railways of the World (all three are the same core game with minor differences).

I've haven't ever played the board game version of Steam (although Railways of the World is one of my favorite games), and I enjoy the app. I think the AIs are appropriately hard enough (and they have 3 levels), the interface is solid once you figure out how to navigate to stuff. I would recommend it.

It shows $2.99 for the map. Not sure if that is normal or sale price.

I've tried this and I'd definitely recommend it. I'm in the same board as lipman here, another big fan of Railways but haven't played the others (Steam and AoS), and I had the same opinion: solid implementation, decent AIs, and overall just plain provides good fun. Assuming the devs continue their plans to add more maps, this will continue to be replayable. There are a few implementation issues which could stand improvement but overall it's solid and it's not buggy. (Caveat: I have only played solitaire, can't speak to the multiplayer.) I'd give it 4 or 4.5 stars and further development could boost that further. As far as the cost of the expansion map, it's been listed at that price since the release.

Just played my first game this morning on my Nexus Android tablet (damned hip won't let me sleep much any more) and it went well. Should be an excellent time waster. You can tell it is a pretty faithful implementation, because the link for "help" leads to the boardgame rules in PDF! Just note it is the "Standard" game, which confused me at first. Not sure how good the AI is, as I came in 2nd by 1 point in my first play.

If I'm remembering correctly, Wabash Cannonball is the progenitor of Chicago Express, and is more a stock and management game than a track laying game (the track-laying actually ends up being part of the stock game, interestingly enough).

Steam is about chasing victory points by way of track laying and pick up and delivery. There is a stock expansion, but I don't believe it's incorporated into this implementation.
