I'm not familiar with this game yet, but I am VERY interested.

I get the impression from some that dice can be made to simplify and streamline games, and I was wondering whether, with all the bookkeeping, a dice variant might be a good idea. Could dice be made to make sense in this game?

I am doubtful. The "beauty" of this game is in the consideration of how to maintain your options for good moves in the future. Yes, the current system does require careful records. But it has a reward for that.

Perhaps a dice system could be devised. But I suspect it would remove some of the interest in the game.

Dice, no. Cards, perhaps.

But only for tracking movement points available for cyclists, not for any random-generation element in tne game. If you ever play the game, you'll see why - random-number generation would be loathsome, in my book.
