SOUTH LAKE TAHOE
WACKY WAVING INFLATABLE ARM FLAILING TUBE MAN!!!
When you beat Dragonlord Eregax in the (Runebound 2nd Edition) base game, Eregax becomes Dragon Rune of Eregax and you get the ability: "Your Hero may activate this card to inflict 3 damage (hearts) instead of making a ranged attack." I have two questions.
1) Does activating the Dragon Rune count as the one attack for the combat round so I can only choose to defend until the next round? Or does the ability mean I just can't make a ranged attack but I still can choose to make a melee or magic attack that same round?
It counts as your hero's one and only attack for the combat round. You can defend in the others, or have allies attack.
2) Do I have to roll combat dice when using the Dragon Rune ability? Other items say to make an attack and if you succeed you inflict damage. But this Rune just says to inflict damage, so does that mean I can just automatically win the ranged attack phase and deal 3 damage? Or if I'm supposed to roll combat dice, if I lose do I take damage, or does nothing happen like a "Before Combat" effect?
You do not roll the combat dice, just inflict the damage directly.
If you are strong in magic or melee, it can be a nice finisher...defend or throw an ally at the first round of ranged, hit with your big attack, then 2nd round attack with that rune during ranged... Bam!
