Yes that is all as I recall it - it is very much a game where 80% of the scoring is done at game end. I'd say it is quite rare to score more than 10-12 points before final scoring. Of course you know you will get a point per house and the canal points, and the town hall steps and it is quite easy to see these but you don't actually score them until the end - mainly as you can lose some of these due to disasters.
In that sense it does make the game a little tricky to evaluate who is going well and who isn't.
Yes, after many games I quite agree. It is possible to pay complete attention during the game to all of the end of game bonuses and the effects of statues, majority markers, houses, and people points. But if you do this in a four or five player game you will spend more time counting than you do playing.
