Description: German infantry and assault guns attack a city defended by Italian infantry and armour.

Analysis:

Orchards are in season (B14.2). The Italian MG cannot place Fire Lanes (A9.22) because they are not in Good Order (A.7).

Italian Defence:

Use the roadblocks to cut the main north-south roads in 22I1-21I10, 21P9-O9 and 21S7-S6. These will prevent the German halftracks towing the AT Guns from Exiting since they cannot cross walls or use Bypass Movement (C10.1).

Keep the vehicles, Guns and other heavy weapons on board 21 to form the rear defensive line. Put a concealed (A12.12) armored car in 21F0 facing G2 and Bore Sight (C6.4) O5. Put a HIP squad and HMG in G5 and Bore Sight P9. Put a HIP crew and 75 ART in H0 facing I2 and Bore Sight H9. Put a Semovente 75 in I10 facing 22H1 and Bore Sight G3. Put a HS and ATR in 21J1. Put a HIP squad and MMG in K4 and Bore Sight K5. Put a crew and 47 AT in O1 facing Q1 and Bore Sight Q1. Put a Semovente 47 in O9 facing P10 and Bore Sight O10. Put a HIP squad and MMG in R6 and Bore Sight O6. Put a crew and 47 AT in S1 facing Q1 and Bore Sight Q1. Put a Semovente 105 in S6 facing R7 and Bore Sight S8. Put a HS and ATR in U2. Put a armored car in Y9 facing X10 and Bore Sight X10. Put a crew and 20L AA in Z0 facing Y2 and Bore Sight Y2. Put a HS and MTR in BB9 and Bore Sight Z10.

The remaining infantry form a forward line to delay the Germans. Put a squad and LMG in 22G10, I9, U10 and W9. Put a squad in C10, O10, AA10 and EE10. Put the 9-1 leader in H8. Put the 8-1 leader in W8. Put the 7-0 leader in BB8.

Use the Concealment counters to make Dummy stacks (A12.11) to fill the holes. Put two Dummies in 22E9, H9, K10, L9, S10 and CC10.

The units on board 22 fall back north as the Germans move up. Because of SSR 2, the usual “skulking” tactic cannot be used. Make sure that all units in buildings can leave via the back door i.e. there is a non-building hexside available to them. For example, a squad in 22F6 can safely assault move back to F5 but a unit in F5 can only go to F4 via the F4-F5-E5 vertex (B23.71) where it can be fired upon.
