There is ample anecdotal evidence from both the invasion of France and the USSR that, having been hit by several shells unable to penetrate the armor, many enemy tank crews would hastily bail out of a still functioning tank. I'm sure this was also the case for some German crews, too. It would be quite unnerving at the very least.
