We played 253 and it seemed problematic. Specifically, almost all the players had no trouble getting to X+1 or more cities in the same round so the game came down to who had the opportunity to buy the VP privilege when it came up on their turn. We ended up discovering all 10 cities, having incomes quickly in the 70-100 range and players finished with 7, 8, 8 and 10 cities reached, but the latter 3 all get the same score. And the person who got 7 made a first turn error before we realized there's no reason to not spend all your money each round.

The "may explore any number of adjacent unknown spaces with 1 active resident" specifically for the 25_ combo seemed strange too, but mostly it lead the game to be very short. (4 turns each?)

Anyone else played this one? Did we misinterpret some rule? Does it just not work well?

I (and at least one of the other players) remain excited to try other combos, but unless we did something wrong, this particular combo was a real dud.

There's some discussion of 25x issues here: First play was 257 with 4 players... and it was a total flop.
