I could use some input for this.

Two nights ago, I tried the Please Don't Kill Me mission and came across a peculiar situation.

My friend and I tried starting the quest by revealing all of the Agent discs. By luck of the Event card draw, we only came across one SecFor II up to the first B&C. To that point, we had revealed all but one of the Agent discs in the building.

After the B&C (Security Level II), we resolved to reveal the last blue Agent disc: a Worker.

In all, outside of B&Cs, we fought a total of three SecFor IIs in the mission. Every time we pulled a Movement card, it required the movement of an Agent disc or a higher Security level to drop new Agents on the board. The first B&C only caused 4 collateral damage; no CDD is put down for that B&C (or level increase). The second B&C had us to Security Level IV - two cleared objectives, one CDD - but the only new OpFors were the 2 SecFor II's in the staircase/EP.

1. Are new Agents only placed when required on Movement cards or am I missing something during the Refresh phase?

2. Has anyone else had this experience? I've had a similar experience playing our second game as well; the "reveal Agents first strategy" really nerf'd the Event cards and new Agent placement.

Just curious.

I often thought trying to get them all revealed prior to the security track increasing would be a better move. Downside is that when you have 8 OpFor on the board, the Security Level immediately jumps, so if your map has a lot of agents, you might get tougher ones too.

I guess I should amend the strategy. It was:

1. reveal all of the agents
2. capture the workers, interrogate the specialists

Thanks for the insight, Kevin!

You should have a level increase immediately after the first B&C, for Immediate Conditions. I'm assuming it was for the objective of finding the Administrator.

We did do that, Greg. The challenge was that there were no new Agent discs coming out as we rushed to the Open Terminal.

Do new Agents come out after a B&C? I don't believe so but I've been quite wrong in the past with this game.

Not necessarily wrong. If you're able to get rid of Agent discs and Opfor early on in the game, that means your MERCS are doing well. Moving silently and deadly to take care of all opposition.

Usually (depending on Security Level) SecFor will appear anyway, with or without Agent discs.

Ok, I was going off what you said about the first B&C and how there was no CDD or level increase.

I can't recall that mission exactly, but some of the results of competition of a B&C will have you place some SecFor immediately.

As far as new agent discs coming out, they will only come out now if directed by the movement card or special conditions on the mission card.

Sometimes the early draw of movement cards is pretty favorable and you don't get a lot of SecFor to have to kill, or the employees come out in a way to all you to capture and/or interrogate them. Other times it can go south faster.

The important thing people will need to realize about this game, is that what happens in one game, isn't necessarily going to happen in the next, even using the same building layout and Mercs crew. The Agent movement cards will come out differently and alter something that you did in the previous game. Then it becomes even more different when you change the building layout, and yet again with a different Mercs crew.

I think this is fine. I've had several "quiet" missions quietly neutralizing civilians with no SecFor and few discs showing up. What eventually happens is that you hit one of those Security Level penalties on the bottom of the card that will place black agent discs or populate SecFor I or II on the stairs and things start to come unglued.
