Drumroll please...

BADUHDUHDUHDUHDUHDUHDUHDUHDUHDBudumbumdabumbumbrrrrrrrrrbudumbduhduhduhduhTSSSHHH!

Welcome to the 2 player PnP contest 2016!!
(I've always wanted to do that)

This contest is an attempt to help feed a need: the need for more inexpensive and innovative two-player games. Many gamers have but one regular gaming partner, be it a spouse, a boy- or girlfriend, a best friend, a sibling, etc. With this contest, I hope to encourage all you clever and attractive designers to create interesting new gaming experiences specifically for a pair of gamers.

The contest was originally started by

Entry Geeklist For 2016

VOTING FORM(voting closed)

Table Of Contents:
d10-1Important Dates
d10-2Who Can Enter(eligibility criteria)
d10-3How To Enter(Submission guidelines)
d10-4Prizes and categories
d10-5Voting and other guidlines

d10-1Important Dates:
Contest Starts - February 5th 2016
(You can enter and start to talk about your games from now)

Submission deadline - May 5th 2016
(All games entered should be ready and available as a pnp till this date)

Corrections deadline - May 10th 2016
(5 extra days will be given for last minute minor changes.)

Voting Starts - May 21st 2016

Voting Deadline - June 21st 2016

The winners will be announced before June end.

d10-2Who Can Enter(Eligibility criteria):
There are absolutely NO RESTRICTIONS on theme, game length, components or art. But other than that you can enter any game into the contest as long as it fits in the following rules.

The game can be played with 2 players. It can be played with more than 2 or 1 but it will be judged on how well it plays with 2 players.

The game would have a free Print N Play available before the submission deadline.

The game has not been entered into any contest here on BGG or into any other contest running simultaneously.
(You may enter withdrawn games or a variation of the game made for this contest. The variation or new version should be noticeably different from the original one.

The game should not have been available to print n play before the start date.
(Participants of last year's contest whose games were left incomplete are allowed. This is to encourage designers to finish their game specially made for this contest.)

The game should not be published before.
(Not that Vlaada Chvatil was thinking of entering but still )

d10-3How To Enter(Submission Guidelines):

To submit your game to the contest:

Create a Work-in-Progress or "WIP" thread in the Works in Progress forum.

(Note: I realize that not everyone will read the rules closely. As such, some of you will post your WIP in a different forum, such as the Design Contest forum or the Board Game Design forum. This will not disqualify your submission. However, most people looking to browse the entries will head to the WIP forum. You will absolutely receive more traffic and feedback if you post to the proper forum.)

There is a geek list of contest entries that I will create. Create a new Item in the Contest Geeklist, following the example shown in the first entry of that Geeklist.

Post, in this thread, a link to your WIP thread.

Keep discussions of specific game submissions within their respective threads, and discussions of the contest or other general topics in this thread.

You may, of course, post major announcements about your game to this thread and to the Contest Geeklist as comments to your entry, but please be circumspect.

As the game is developed, post the file link(s) to the game in a) the first post of your WIP, b) this thread, and c) the game's entry in the Contest Geeklist.

NOTE: Your game does not need to be in a Completed phase by the end of the submission deadline in order to qualify. We can judge your game based on the latest prototype. Of course, incomplete games are not likely to get voted as highly as finished and polished games. On the other hand, just like all art forms, some games are never really "complete," merely abandoned. Just do your best.

d10-4Prizes And Categies
There are in total 11 prize categories this year to encourage many types of games to enter. The categories are:

(By pot I mean prize pot not the other pot. I was talking about a flower pot.)

I will be doing either reviews or playthrough videos for my youtube channel Print N Playthroughs of some of the category winners.

Kai(Schatentanz) has designed this graphic which you can use to put on you game box or anywhere if you win the best overall prize.

If anyone else want to offer any other prizes to the winners please geek mail me.

d10-5Voting And Other Guidelines:
Voting:
will be done most probably by a online Google form whose link will be provided here once the voting starts. Any member of BGG can vote.(Because we stand for political equality.)

All voters will be required to include their BGG username when they vote, to help prevent accidental or intentional multi-votes. If you are not currently registered, what are you waiting for? It's free!

Number Of Entries:
You can enter any number of games as long as they belong to completely distinct categories. Usually this would mean that you can enter 1 microgame and 1 heavy game. But you can also enter a heavy miniature game and a lighter gateway game. Or even a game you designed alone and a codesigned game.

Although please don't stretch the restriction and enter a heavy miniature game you designed alone and another heavy game without miniatures that you also did alone. The games should be very clearly be of different categories. It's always better to design a very few masterpieces than a lot of average games.

Copyrights:
Even though you enter the game, at all times all the rights to your game stay with you. If you are worried about stealing your idea here, the best I can do is assure you that no one would. This is a very friendly and creative community.

Art For Your Game:
It is not compulsory that you only have to use the illustrations made by you for your game. You can always use creative common images from anywhere as long as you are allowed to use them. Please take care not to violate any copyright policies of images. A good place to get icons is game-icons.net

Most important rule - HAVE FUN! These contests are great way to interact with fellow designers, play test their games and in turn let people play your game. Accept feedback graciously and give amazing feedback. You are not just participating in the contest you are participating in the community. I wish everyone good luck in making your awesome games! Here we go!

Re: 2016 2 Player PnP Design Contest
I thought I would make a list of designers entered in the contest just for everyone to get to know each other. If everyone is familiar with who they are competing with it will be a more involved experience. This list will have the names of all the designers who have entered a game with a line or 2 about themselves.

So if you are a designer, you can send me a geekmail having:
Your name
1 sentence about yourself.

List Of Designers Entered:
d10-1 Ivan Turner (gnrlwoundwort)
I'm a New York City high school teacher who does some fiction writing and game designing in his spare time.

d10-2Aaron Reading (Apollo1111)
I live in Brisbane Australia. I've been playing Magic for several years and have started trying my hand at board game design. So far I'm loving it and the community.

d10-3Brenden Sewell (Legendary Frog)
I'm a video game designer from Tempe Arizona, branching out into making the kinds of tabletop gaming experiences I love playing.

d10-4Jared Beauchamp (bachewie)
I currently reside in Phoenix Arizona as a video game producer, and this is my first exploration into tabletop gaming. I look forward to getting to know the BGG community and delivering a new tabletop experience. "

d10-5Benjamin Ng(aurasprw)
I'm a motion graphics designer in Berkeley California. I've been playing Magic since I was a little kid, and my favorite games are Hearthstone and Alien Frontiers.

d10-6Vincente Sivera(pulpapocalipis)
Heroquest started it all many years ago. Now I roam around the world following the Tao while creating art and boardgames.

d10-7Steve Crowther (worthdot)
I've grown up making simple games since I was a kid. I've thought about designing a real game before and I'm excited to have my first go of it.

d10-8Gord Patt (gord42)
I love to find new things, so cheap/always something new gaming hobby started with crafting PnP's, then re-skinning small games, now experimenting with game design.

d10-9Gaurav Saraf(surfer23)
I am currently living in Singapore. I recently started testing my ideas and designing games and am loving every part of it!

I would also want to make another list for designers that are looking to partner up with other designers or artists for making a co-designed game. This year we wanted to experiment with this category to see how things work out. So far there been a lot of enthusiasm for this.

So if you plan on entering a game with another designer please geekmail me these:
Your name/nickname
Who are you looking to team up with - Designer, Artist, designer and artist.

List Of Designers Looking For Co-designers:
d10-1 Tom Hardy(T hardy) - Co-designer found
I already have a heavy game in progress so I am looking for someone to Co-designers a smaller game with from the ground up.

d10-2

PS- This is not compulsory of course. But it's just to make the contest more interactive.

Best Co-designed Game

I'll love to see designers from around the world working together on a hobby that whey love. There will be list of designers open for partnering with someone at the top soon. You can ask anyone of the participant or anyone from anywhere else if they can work with you to make a game for the contest. Both designers should be BGG users though so that we can know who is entering.

Tip this post to contribute to the prize pot for best co-designed game.

Best Micro Game

Micro games are becoming increasingly popular these days. There is no fixed definition for a micro but it's usually a game that is:
Component light(generally up to 4-5 pages of PnP)
fairly quick(up to 45 minutes)

Examples:
Love Letter
One Night Ultimate Werewolf

Best Heavy Game

This is like the opposite end of the micro games. This is to award the best game that plays in over 30 minutes, has a fair number of components and has enough strategy for the time it takes to play.

Examples:
Twilight Imperium (Third Edition)
Terra Mystica

Some gamers like to play games with light strategy and very simple rules. These can be family games or games you can introduce to non gamers and they will get it quite easily. Basically games which you can play at a casual event while talking to people.

Best Miniature Combat Game

This is to fill the need for many more 2 player miniature battle to the death games. For your game to fit in this category it should have 2 things:
miniatures of any form - standees, paper miniatures, tokens representing miniatures.
A combat mechanic. Anything that simlates a fight.

Examples:
Blood Rage
BattleCON: Devastation of Indines
Axis & Allies

Thanks again Tom for taking over the contest this year, you've done a fine job organizing. I'm eager to see what other people come up with, and to put some ideas we have been brewing to the test.

Here is the link to our WIP tactical card battle game, Scathe, that two other designers and I started brewing for this contest. We are excited to see what people think!
