Does the "ranged fire" noted on combat cards include reserve artillery fire? An example would be the card Return Fire.

I've wondered about this but I play that it does not. Ranged fire is limited to Infantry ranged fire - I us the Body Armour card to support this view as it would give little protection from artillery shells but would be effective against bullets.

I wouldn't think so, either, since Reserve Artillery isn't a Battlefield unit. Who would be the target of Return Fire?

Reserve artillery is ranged fire.

Return fire can only be used against an enemy battlefield unit

Do you have an official source for this Mark? Where can I find it in the rules?

I see now that Page 22 of the rules is headed "Reserve Artillery Ranged Combat." However, for the purpose of game mechanics, I think most or all of the Combat Cards speaking of 'ranged combat' should NOT include RA Shoots. For the card Return Fire for example, I think RA fire should not activate it.

The Return Fire card itself states

Quote:
If your defending unit is not eliminated or forced to retreat during the ranged attack, your unit may do ranged combat against the enemy battlefield unit that just attacked you...

The first bullet for Reserve Artillery on p.21 states that a player's Reserve Artillery unit is not a battlefield unit. So Return Fire can't be played against it.
