Yes kinda crazy given the initial buy in cost is already so high. Shame there is no 'cards only' option.

Will have to see how they are on the secondary market

Shipping of the boxed game was $140 to Finland.. And that was as shipped from DE as DHL Weltpaket (still don't understand how it can be that expensive, normally DHL packages are around 30e)

Night fell and the hours dragged on, but still we murmured to each other of the King and the Pallid Mask, and midnight sounded from the misty spires in the fog-wrapped city.

We spoke of Hastur and of Cassilda, while outside the fog rolled against the blank window-panes as the cloud waves roll and break on the shores of Hali.

In my opinion, even the inflated retail prices are still lower on the list of KDM problems than "availability outside the US" and "no retail presence = ridiculous shipping/VAT costs". If there was a FLGS in my city carrying KDM products for retail prices, I'd buy them all in a heartbeat. As it is, I'm relying on the occasional backer to offload extra copies on ebay, and hope they consider the difference between KS price and retail price a large enough profit margin so as to not price-gouge even more.

From what I read on the kickstarter update comment section, there was a guy who was asking for a refund.
Maybe try to contact him to make a deal or something.
Adam Poots is asking only additional $17 USD for shipping.

There was a guy located in the UK on the By Lanterns Light facebook page looking to offload them all for £500

Well the 120€ arn´t that crazy.

You have to compare with Gamesworkshop and Warmachine to get miniatures of the same size/quality.

https://www.games-workshop.com/de-DE/Archaon-Exalted

With the Dragont you also get Cards, a rulebook and other stuff.

While you might think that is ridiculous, I'll bet lots and lots of people will plunk down the cash to get one. I also bet he'll offer specials like he did with the base game. Maybe it will be $80-90 on his site for awhile.

If you think this is bad, wait until he runs out of stock. When eBay or the geek market is the only place to get one, then prices will get ridiculous.

My goal was to hopefully sell my second set of KD:M (black Fridays purchaser) to pay for my first set. I think I will achieve my goal.

I'm sorry to say it but YOU are the guys who have to cover what they lost on their KS and bad planning. Every person who bought/is considering to buy this game at retail.
Capitalism I guess.

If the estimation of retail prices looks like that, getting it all could cost around $1000.

Time to sell everything I own.

I really hope we see a package deal on the website soon... because if it's 120$ US for the big ones... and like 80$ for the small ones... I won't be able to grab a lot of them... the game is one of the best game I've played in a long time... but you are looking at 1500$ with the base game...

I just bought KDM, and was not around/aware of it during its' Kickstarter campaign. Ordered my copy this past weekend.

That being said, I would love to get my hands on 2-3 of the expansions at retail price, especially the ones that could really alter the core campaign.

Seeing how many games I have that KDM will immediately alter as "obsolete" or "inferior" that I can sell, I should be able to buy at least 3 without directly hitting my bank account.

Of course, I will buy the others too, if they are available.

I did a double-take when I saw the retail price of the Dragon King. I'm really wishing I bought a second copy of everything to pay for my copies.

Hah! I got everything game related on the kickstarter and I paid over $500. $1000 is optimistic.

I regret picking up the core game at this point, I think I'm mainly pissed that the original MSRP listed was almost half of that. Dragon King was $65 or so I think. I know I can't afford all the expansions at this point, so being the completionist I am, I'm wondering what's the point. This is the final nail in the coffin for KD having any chance of really taking off in my opinion

I think it's already taken off... And consider how much people are paying for non gameplay models both on the site and on eBay, and I'd say there is definitely a market out there willing to pay these prices

But this is still the Early Adopter phase for this game, the real question here is when the dust settles, backers get their stuff, and the initial wave of people buy expansions, is he going to be able to keep a steady stream of revenue coming in? Everyone keeps referring back to the special ed. models that have been in the store, but 1) those typically are far cheaper 2) their limited edition, meaning they have more appeal for die hard fans.

Guys...

This isn't just a game

Its a freaking work of art

Seriously; the rule books, all the cards (my god the cards), the tokens, the miniatures. So beautiful. All coming together to make a fantasy world like no other, rich with gloriously detailed characters steeped in wondrous atmosphere and intriguing history.
(what is the emote for tears of joy?)

What I'm saying is to see this as just a game is like seeing Terry Pratchett's Discworld series as a bunch of particularly wordy paperweights...
You could practically display this game like you would large paintings (yeah ok not stuck to a wall obviously; on shelves or, if you have the space, a table.). Its not really a game for the game collector its a game for the art collector... kindof, I guess...

Sure us backers got obscene value through the kickstarter (yeah nah, I did miss out on the major expansions. I would regret not getting them if I actually could have afforded them at that time) but the retail prices are probably not that far off from their true value. We just got lucky this time.

Plus for that price you know exactly what you get and that you will get it, backing kickstarters is ALWAYS risky. Even some of the most sure kickstarters have failed to meet expectations and often the better funded they are the longer it seems to take for them to deliver. Anyone going through kickstarter would have been foolish not to at least wonder if they might just be flushing hundreds of dollars down the toilet (thousands apparently in some cases).

Any kickstarter project is innately a gamble but the whole kickstarter thing can become a lot like going to a casino: you see all these great things you could get value on so you put a little bit of money on this and a little bit on that, and you kindof get a bit of what you wanted here and little bit there. So you kindof feel safe, "I can get back what I spent", so you start spending more and more. Sometimes you do get some really nicely done stuff not too long after what the expected delivery was, but sometimes you don't get anything. Nothing. Sometimes barely even any explanation from the creator. Sometimes the creator, whose idea you were trying to help bring to life, is left bankrupt, dreams crushed, from trying to deliver such high standards set by you the backer. This is one fear I had watching the updates with ever increasing content being added to an already huge project, somehow all we were hit with was a delay to delivery (ok the delay was pretty long) and $17 to pay to cover a portion of the extra shipping costs.
We just got lucky this time...

For some reason having to pay $17 to get their last package shipped has upset a few people (maybe five), so be on the look out to pick up what disgruntled backers won't.

Two of my stupid friends that liked the stupid minis are 100% stupid KS backers and brilliant me who likes minis, but not THAT much, thought it was a silly endeavor to pay so much for some stupid minis and an unknown game/system.

Those stupid friends are getting a bunch of stupid-amazing models and game expanding options it makes this brilliant person love-resent those stupid friends and those stupid choices they made however many stupid years ago they made them.

Please note: those stupid friends live about 10 minutes from each other and about 5 hours from me.

On the flip side, because you didn't back the game you can afford to travel and visit them to play Kingdom Death: Monster, and since they paid for the game they probably can't afford to come and play with you.
