Got some family friends that love Uno gulp, and I'm wanting to introduce some heavier stuff (But not too heavy!)

Their favorite part of Uno is the "Take that" aspect.

I've got Smiley Face, Red7, and Diamonds ready to take. And while Smiley Face is pretty mean, the other 2 aren't really and so I'd like one or two more suggestions, the meaner the better! Group may be 3-5 total.

The tops.... accessible, nasty, and leads to nearly as many broken friendships as Diplomacy.

This is the board game w/cards, not the re-implemented version into cardgame.

Is BANG! too heavy? Do they like bluffing games, like Coup?

They've never played Coup but I don't think that'd work (I do own Coup).

Bang! The Dice Game might be ok.

Monopoly Deal Card Game is probably what your looking for. Cheap, fast with just the right amount of stealing and backstabbing

Innovation can be brutal (my wife refuses to play anymore)

Monopoly Deal is a good one (and I already own it), but I hadn't considered it, thanks!

Citadels - Cheap, compact, simple, and full of take-thats.
Broom Service - Don't let this one fool you. It's full of take-thats and pressing your luck against it.

Linko! isn't really too take thaty, but, there are definitely times when people will get a bit upset when you snatch their 6 sevens and make them take a bunch of bad cards from the pile.

I would understand if this game might be too oblique for their tastes, but in Traders of Osaka you can attempt to manipulate timing of a favored ship arriving in port in such a way that causes other players to lose their goods.

Little Devils - fun filler game.. easy to explain and quick.
Cha-Ching - one of my favorites..
SUTAKKU - dice game...

I'd also look at Smirk and Dagger Games (http://www.smirkanddagger.com), games using the "take that" mechanic games are their specialty.

+1 You can add Allies for the 5th player but not Pooky since he replaces Zot.

Hi, Dustin. You might be interested in our design, Parenthood. It's not a big hit among "serious" gamers, but it absolutely has the "take that" quality you're looking for, and it's light fodder for a more social group. Works best around 3-5 players. There's much more theme than something like Uno, and although it is intrinsically G-Rated, the players tend to get pretty raunchy when they add their own narratives to the events of the game. It's been a lot of fun for rude parties so far. You an get more info at our web site, pastgo.net. Let me know if you have any questions.

Smash Up has been a big hit with some of my friends who like a "take that" game, and the theme lends itself to people who aren't huge gamers, since there are lots of different combinations to suit different tastes.

Although it's not necessarily a "take that" game, you really ought to look into For Sale. The auction half of the game is very cutthroat and the simultaneous card selection for selling your properties is very tense. I have yet to meet a person that didn't enjoy this game.
