Hey all,
Well, I THINK most folks have gotten their game by now, so I'd like to run a tournament as is my tradition (at this point, I suppose it is

Taking signups in this thread until 29 Feb. Tournament starts 1 March and lasts for 2 weeks.

Here are the rules: Modified Short tonnage tournament. Each player starts with a standard Gato class submarine in April, 1942, from Pearl Harbor. Tournament lasts until April, 1944. (no patrols may depart on that month, however, patrols MAY depart in March 1944.)

The only optional rule in play is 14.8 (Circular torpedo runs.)

I will be randomly assigning players into 4-boat SUBRONs unless you request to be in a SUBRON with a friend. However, no assignments are guaranteed. I will have the final say in assignments in order to maintain progress if needed.

Finally, despite bragging rights there are also prizes. I will be sending a Silent Victory T-shirt out to the top 2 scores AND to each member of the top aggregate-scoring SUBRON.

Top tonnage Tie-breakers will be: 1. Highest number of ships sunk. 2. Highest award. 3. Highest number of highest award (3 Navy Crosses trumps just 2, etc.). 4. Most Battle Stars.

I will also be sending out a T-shirt, consolation prize, to the craziest, saddest, most improbable and unlucky demise recorded. I will be the judge of this winner, and although this judgment will be subjective, I'm pretty sure somebody's sad luck story will stand out

I need the following data for signups:
1. Name
2. Sub name

Final reports should include: Ships sunk, total tonnage, final disposition (Sunk, Scuttled, Captured, or Active.) Narratives are not required, however, they will be needed if you want to compete for the consolation prize.

Interim reports are not required but may serve to instill fear or pity from your competitors.

Please post questions along with your signups.

Artist's copy, no need for a CC!

And it turns out they attempted delivery whilst I was out today. That's the sort of good news. The bad news is the rather hefty VAT bill they say I need to pay. Now I need to check with GMT what they actually wrote on the shipping label, because this isn't adding up.

There's normally a place for writing a value.

Not that it always helps. I had one package labelled $49, the Customs people read it as $99 and charged accordingly.

Will there be another forum thread for AAR's etc. ?

Also, I picked SS-236 because it is my DSN at work, but the SS-236 was the USS Silversides!! I only hope to be as successful! Also, could someone educate me on the symbolism of battleflags? I get the Meatballs and Rising sun flags, but on this flag there are also a few Meatball flags that look broken in half, not sure what that means.

Thanks

Hey Craig,

After the tournament starts, I'll start up a thread for posting results and AARs.

Broken in half: damaged maybe? Just a guess....somebody here will probably know.

You reminded me of this which I saw while touring the U.S.S. Bowfin in Pearl Harbor.

The French flag is funny, but the bottom right is even better. Yes, that's a bus.

Edit: I made a separate battle flag thread.

Cool! The hollow meatballs are maybe the same as Silverside's cracked meatballs? Maybe confirmed hit but not sunk. How many damaged ships have I lost or had to leave behind in SV and The Hunters? I bet that's what it is.

Is there a reason for the size difference and grouping of the flags of ships sunk? My google-fu is failing me.

And maybe the bus was a Special Operative delivered to that island? We have those missions too. Very cool.

How is Pearl going to handle that much prep and load-out in such a short period of time? Do you have no understanding of logistics?
