I tried this game last night with my sister and brother-in-law with the recommended roles. We were all Informants and nothing happened.

My niece came home and the four player game was just as dismal; I was the only rebel and the Reassignor...nothing happened except I was assassinated.

I packed up the game, said "Thanks for trying it" and closed the lid on a game I know they will never agree to play again. We played Pandemic and had fun.

Has anyone had fun with this game at low player counts?

I am sure I did not miss a rule, but those who wish to defend this game or tell me what we did wrong are welcome to enlighten me.

Edit (March 20) Wow, no one will defend this game? It must be worse than I thought. I want my 20 Loonies back.

We got the same problem last weekend when we tried it. The only reason it is annoying af that the designer of the game said they had the best play tests with 3 or 4 players with 2 or 3 possible spies in the game. Also Tom Vasel said in his review that this game really shines with 4 players, he said its better than ONUW.
I sent a message to Ted Alspach about the problem, he didnt reply anything yet. I dont think he will if he knows that his game is broken...

There is a proposal (can do as a home rule) Change the value of the specialist Defector or make an alternate card "renegade"
If Informant: swap your ID with an Rebel ID in the middle (if none exist, skip)
if Rebel, swap your ID with an Informant ID in the middle (if none exist, skip)
I will try to justify. Action informant "see your ID" is already in Specialist Thief. But the action in which the informant has become a rebel (changing the ID from the middle) - not. Those. rebel informant can be in the game, and the informant - not. When in game three players at the situation when the distribution of all three players informants - you can immediately move on to the next hand. Then this card is required to play three players instead of Reassignor, which, if the informant, the informant enters the game instead of the center of the rebel ID of one of the players.
Sorry my bad english
