for creating the badge!

Somehow I've got the feeling, that the rules don't get read by everyone here. This leads to this month's requirement:

Attention

Remember: The requirement is a requirement - not a theme! It's up to you, how you involve it in your game!

Happy designing and kind regards,
Kai

p.s.:

In the behaviour rules (see link to basic rules thread above) I've written:
Quote:
Please create a second posting in that thread to present your creation.
Please do present your game along with a short description in a posting. The reason I ask you to do this is simple: Creating geeklist entries becomes easier for me because from time to time copy-n-pasting from PDFs produces unexpected results (such as copying only odd symbols into the clipboard ..)
Thanks a lot

Definately interested to participate again modest. For me, it was quite tiring but the experience gained was really rewarding.

Somehow it's hard to resist using the requirement as theme

You can use it as theme, yes, but you are not necessarily required to!

Re: 24 hour contest March 2016
This will be my 27th straight contest.
This is the first time I read the requirement and got an idea instantly.
I might even work on it tonight, which would be another first. I usually wait till the last 24 hours.

Thanks for this contest Kai!

Re: 24 hour contest March 2016
I just went to the beach and stared at the ocean for a half hour.
I designed the whole game in my head and I'm excited.
So excited I could even make it a stretch goal on my kickstarter that is coming up in less than 2 weeks.
So I am starting now.
I have to write it all down.
I think I have something here.
Thanks for the inspiration!

Re: 24 hour contest March 2016
Pay Attention

Are you a good listener? Do you know the people you are playing with? Pay Attention is a competitive storytelling game where you need to predict the word the storyteller is holding. The storyteller will create a story in 30 seconds or less and you will listen for key words. The storyteller will rank the guessers on who will get the most money if correct and who guesses first.

3-10 players
Age 10+
30 minutes

Contents:
200 word cards (10 of each in 20 categories)
10 player ranking cards
30 second timer

Set Up
Choose a starting player.
The starting player will shuffle and place all money cards in the center word side down in two piles. Then take the colored ranking cards and set to the side. You will need cards equal to the number of players minus one. Ex. If you have six players, take the cards 1-5 and place off to the side.
Take out the timer and give it to the player to the left of the starting player.

Play
The starting player will draw the number od cards equal to the number of players equal to the number of players, including themselves. they will have 5 seconds to look at the cards. The player with the timer can count down. The player will choose one card and place in their hand, the rest will go in into the prize pool in the center of the table.

The player will then flip the timer and say GO! The starting player will have 30 seconds to tell a story. It's ok if the story is less than 30 seconds.

Once the storyteller is finished they will place a colored ranking card in front of each player. The highest number will represent the amount of money the player will get if they are the only one correct. It also represents who will go first on guessing the word. the highest number goes first and it goes down the line in order. The lowest number has the advantage of going last and stopping a player from getting the bonus money by guessing the same number as that player.

After everyone guesses the secret word the storyteller will reveal their hidden word.

Scoring a round:
Each round the storyteller will get 1 dollar for telling the story. That means they keep the card and add it to their imaginary wallet which is located in a small pile directly in front of them on the table.

- If one player is correct they get the number of dollars equal to the number on the ranking card in front of them. Ex. If there are 6 players and the player who was the only one correct has a 3 on their ranking card, they get 3 of the 5 dollars that are in the prize pool in the center. The storyteller gets the rest. So there is a strategy in ranking the players.

- If 2 or more players guess correct, they both get 1 dollar each and the storyteller gets the rest.

- If everyone guesses correct, everyone gets a dollar.

- If no one guesses correct everyone gets a dollar.

Play continues:
Once scoring is complete the player to the left of the storyteller will be next. The round continues the same way until everyone gets to be a storyteller. At the end of a round everyone will announce their totals before starting the next round. There are 3 rounds in the game.

End Score:
The player with the most money at the end of 3 rounds wins the game.

* to speed up the game you can play 1-2 rounds instead of 3.

Re: 24 hour contest March 2016
I just read the rules and noticed lots of typos. I stayed up all night working on this game so it's understandable, but too bad I can't change it. I am a teacher, so not being able to correct it is a bummer. I do have a WIP folder. https://boardgamegeek.com/thread/1537145/wip-pay-attention-c...

I just fixed the typos there. If anyone has any thoughts on it I would appreciate it. This game was played by my students during my 24 hour period. I usually never do that. One of the classes I teach is book report class, I wanted to take a break from our book, so we made up stories for the game. It was fun.

I had this idea on the way to work and thought to myself, "maybe I'll make a WIP." but then I came across this, and it seems to fit alright so I think I'll try my hand, as it were.

Re: 24 hour contest March 2016
ok here it is...

You've heard the legend about the creation of Chess - the Sultan, the wise man, the rice on the board. What you probably didn't know was that the Sultan, being a very busy ruler, wasn't really paying close attention to the wise man's explanation of the game. He thought he heard something about placing rice on the squares, but the wise man had actually said you need to put dice on the squares! Dice! Yes, until this moment we have all been house-ruling Chess, and not playing the game the way the designer originally intended.

So without further ado, I present Chess: The Dice Game - an example of what can happen when you don't pay attention!

Chess: The Dice Game
Players: 2
Components: 32 D6 dice, blank stickers, and chess board (printable templates provided)
Files: Rules and printable board (http://goo.gl/4iY1dM), Dice sticker printable template (http://goo.gl/pf00FP)

...and now you know the rest of the story. Good day!

Edit: for more flavor text!

Re: 24 hour contest March 2016

2 - 5 Players
Ages 10+
30-45 minutes play time

The City Museum has several valuable pieces of art in the Central Display Hall. There has been a rumor that a someone is planning on breaking into the Museum and grabbing one of those pieces. The Museum has installed four new surveillance cameras in the display hall, and each is monitored by a Security Guard. Unfortunately, the Museum did not buy top of the line equipment, and those security cameras do not work as well as the Museum and the Guards hoped they would.

Game Components:
4 PDF files containing:
1) 1 Game board - print out using the tile pages function with a nice size overlap – say 1 inch; cut out and tape the four pieces together. Or glue to cardstock and use them as four pieces placed together.
2) Tokens:
4 Security Guard Tokens
Fronts & backs for 4 Camera Tokens
14 Valuable Museum Pieces Tokens
1 Entrance Token
1 Exit Token (optional use)
1 Dash Token (used by the Thief)
4 Camera Vision Arcs (ideally printed out on clear transparency paper if possible)
3) Thief Movement Sheet (print out several copies, as one is needed each game)
4) The rules

Winning and Losing:
The Security Guards are working together to protect all the Museum Pieces in this Hall. The Thief has 60 minutes grab the one desired piece and escape with it; and if he does he wins. But if the Thief ever gets caught standing in the Vision Arc of a camera or the beam of a Guard’s flashlight, he are caught - game over. The Guards have paid attention, not gotten distracted and done their job.
