I just finished reading this book. It covers all the French and Huguenot events in the game.

The book is an easy read with a quite light hearted tone. It was easy to keep all the Henri's and Guises apart.

The history of events like the Flying Squadron is a bit of an eye opener.

Move over Tudors and Borgias here come the Valois. Just waiting for the TV series.

I have also read this a few years ago. It covers the same period but I found it harder to read.

I watched La Reine Margot in the 90s but it made much more sense after reading the books.

Let me just add that _La Reine Margot_ is an absolutely terrific movie. It is, for a movie, quite historically accurate. (For a movie that's based on a novel by Dumas, it's downright amazing. This is one of the rare cases where Dumas didn't need to embellish the history much, because the history is so insane.)

The acting is fantastic (especially Margot, her terrifying mother, and Henry of Navarre); the cinematography is lush and gorgeous; and it really captures the violence and uncertainty of this period in France. In game terms, you'll gain a much deeper understanding of several cards -- including why France has a home card called The Black Queen!

There's fair amount of graphic violence and sex by the standards of the 1990s, but frankly less than your average _Game of Thrones_ episode.

Four and a half stars for anyone, bumped to five if you're a history nerd.

While it is focused on Mary, Queen of Scots, Reign features the Valois very prominently (at least the first few seasons before she returns to Scotland), since she was in the French Court for so long.
