Hi all,

I am looking for two different types of two player games.

1st type: Cooperative Card Games
Suitable for 2 players mainly but ok to cater for more
Ability to be made portable
Less than 90 minutes playing time

I already own Space Hulk Death Angel Card Game which I think fits this category

2nd type: Asymmetric Two player games
I already have planned to try Raptor and Mr Jack when I visit a board game cafe in two weeks but I was wondering if what other ones are out there.

Thank you in advance for all your help

Asymmetric 2-player games:
Lord of the Rings: The Confrontation

Netrunner / Android: Netrunner

Edit: Pathfinder ACG is not really portable.

I recently played Tiny Epic Defenders and really enjoyed it. If you enjoy Pandemic-style co-ops, this is a great, portable game that scales well.

Some asymmetric 2p games I enjoy:

Letters from Whitechapel
Campaign Manager 2008
Twilight Struggle
The Pillars of the Earth: Builders Duel

The Game
2 to 4 players, very portable, needs very little table space, has no theme at all but is compelling in a strange way.

Onirim (second edition)
1 to 2 players, very portable, comes with 7 extensions.

Tash-Kalar: Arena of Legends
2 to 4 players (it is a 2 player game), can be played symmetric and asymmetric, combination of board and card play

Blood Bowl: Team Manager – The Card Game
2 to 4 players, really good as a two player game, 4 teams in the base box, but you can buy more. Mostly cards and some counters.

Smash Up
Card game. Base box comes with 8 different factions, you can buy 8 expansions with at least 4 more factions per expansion. You combine two factions per player each game which results in a huge variaty for asymmetrical play

edit: added BBTM
edit: added SmashUp

Maybe The Lord of the Rings: The Card Game could work for you, if you put the cards in cardboxes and the tokens in a bag.

I never played Warhammer Quest: The Adventure Card Game and it does not seem to be portable, but it fulfills your other search criteria, so I mention it anyway.

Hanabi has a shorter playtime length.

Never played it and it also seems to have a shorter playtime length, but The Game should probably also be mentioned.

How deep in the hobby are you ?

Just in case, I will add a weight/complexity ratings to provide some kind of orientation.

For comparison, Mr. Jack would be rated:

Android: Netrunner E

Polis: Fight for the Hegemony E

Letters from Whitechapel E

Claustrophobia E Never played it, BGG says

A Few Acres of Snow E Never played it, BGG says

Imperial Settlers E Never played it, BGG says

Star Wars: X-Wing Miniatures Game E Never played it, BGG says

Twilight Struggle E Never played it, BGG says

@Everyone: is 2 de Mayo asymmetrical ?

Good luck and have fun !

Revolver and Revolver 2: Last Stand at Malpaso. I haven't tried the first, but the second is a good choice.

Yes it is. I would say it is not really well balanced, but this happens often with asymmetrical games, depending on everyone's experience. In any case, I prefer Revolver over 2 de mayo.

I love 2-player games where each player has a very different set of capabilities but generally the same rules. I guess some people call those asymmetric and some don't? If that's the kind of thing you're looking for, here are some favorites:

Tash-Kalar: Arena of Legends
BattleCON: Devastation of Indines
Summoner Wars
Puzzle Strike

Lord of the Rings: The Confrontation and Blue Moon Legends are my top recommendations for 2-player asymmetrical games that are fairly portable (and also thoroughly excellent).

2 de Mayo is an excellent asymmetric 2p game. Highly recommended!

I'm less useful on coops, but Hanabi is enjoyable.

For a cooperative deckbuilder, I've been having a lot of fun with Shadowrun: Crossfire. The box is big, but there's lots of room for expansion cards. You could easily use a smaller box if/when you want to take the game somewhere.

For an asymmetric two player game, I'll give a +1 to Tash-Kalar: Arena of Legends.

For asymmetric 2 player, I really enjoy King and Assassins. Both sides are interesting to play.

For 2 player game info you could check out the guild A Couple of Gamers it is comprised of people who almost exclusively play 2 player.

There's also the monthly geek list What Couples Have Been Playing March 2016 where you can find great 2 player stuff.

+1 to Polis: Fight for the Hegemony This is an exceptional game with so much depth, if you are a fan of Greek history, light war and a really tight economical game. This is a must have. Highly suggest it!
