Hi,
Has anyone ever made a list of abbreviations used in WitP? Learning hex-games is like learning a completely new language (especially the abbreviations).

I started doing some research and could find some detailed information on:

http://www.history.navy.mil/research/library/online-reading-...

so my first list of abbreviations looks as follows. Of course I am by far not sure if they are correct. But it's the best I could find using the site above (US naval abbreviations). For the Japanese aircraft, I used the search tool in the PDF document.

1 month ago I had never heard of either one of the abbreviations below (new to hex-and-counter games!)

A6M : zero : Japanese aircraft
AP : Air Point (groups of planes)
B5N : Japanese aircraft
BC : Battle Cruiser
CA : Heavy Cruiser
CAP : Combat Air Patrol
CL : Light Cruiser
CLAA : Light Cruiser Anti-Aircraft
CV : Aircraft Carrier
D3A1 : Japanese aircraft
DD : Destroyer
DR : Dice roll
DRM : Dice roll modifyer
F4F: "Wildcat"; single-engine Navy fighter (VF)
SBD : "Dauntless"; single-engine Navy scout-bomber (VSB)
TBD : "Devastator"; single-engine Navy torpedo-bomber (VTB)
TF : Task Force

greetings

Check out section 2.0 (Game Equipment & Definitions) of the help file.

Abbreviations for unit designations are in section 2.4

Thank you 'Old Blue',

Indeed in 2.4, but not alphabetically and not really explained. It's only possible to guess as to what for instance 'CA' means. It's not even sure the list below is correct. Of course for a beginner, there is no way to say yet if all of this is important to play the game or not. I might be looking for details that are not really necessary
