I travel to and from game events once or twice a week and, of course, I want to bring my new games. However, this Star Wars: Rebellion box is ridiculously large give it's contents.

So I cut my box down so it the boards and components fit in it nicely and the box is about the height of a normal boardgame box.

1. I measured the contents from the top and found that cutting about 2.25 inches off would be perfect.

2. Using a ruler and marker, I marked the box bottom:

3. Using a box cutter, I carefully cut along the lines:

4. I inverted the cut box bottom and slid it into the box top. Then I marked the edge on the inside of the box top:

5. Using a box cutter, I carefully cut just inside the lines (that way the box top won't over hang the bottom:

6. To protect the rough edges, I used Elmers glue to solidify them. Run a bead along the edge and use your fingers to smooth it out:

7. I let them dry over night and Voila!: a normal sized box!

Finally, there is space left in the box:

Nice. But I'd be afraid that doing this would leave me unable to box future expansions with the base game - this is Fantasy Flight. I might consider reboxing if I could keep the original box unaltered.

If you also slit each of the vertical corners of the top and bottom boxes (8 cuts total), you can lay the box flat so the empty box doesn't take up so much space while you play.

Some carton clips and a couple of good rubber bands can hold it together for transport.

I think these would work.

This could also be used to reduce the size:

The taller box is actually perfect for my plano storage solution. So I'll be keeping mine as is.

Thanks for posting this up, though. I love to see DIY gaming projects, even if they aren't one's I'll undertake.

I thought the same about Armada, and then they released something called 'expansions' and suddenly I was glad I bought two coresets so that I can fit it all in the boxes.

I wonder if FFG has any plans for expansions for this one..... They do have a history....

Don't expect too much more plastic in expansions, the game can't take much more plastic. A cut down box will still have plenty room for cards and a few pieces.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to have the box filled eventually, but it would take an expansion with as much plastic as the original to do it. Not going to happen.

I did this exact same thing last night so I could carry it with me more easily. Good idea on the glue to protect the edges, I'll have to do that. I measured 6 cm down from the top for the bottom portion and then it ended up being about 7.5 cm from the bottom for the lid portion. It's about the size of the Fury of Dracula box now.

Are you KIDDING? Where are my Nebulon B's? B-wings? A-wings? Victory Class Star Destroyers? Interdictors? Dark Troopers? A plastic Millennium Falcon?

If we don't get more plastic, I will be very disappointed! So many iconic ships are missing!

Because there is a lot of concerned about loss of space for expansions, here is a picture of the remaining space in the box:

This "IS" the number one media entertainment format.

Where else could one wittiness the most amazing transformation of a board game box.

Women should be flocking.

Very doubtful. It's difficult to convince a woman that something can be too big.

My box is full of little Plano-esque boxes with minis in different compartments. It's tall and proud.
