Hi all,

I just ordered this game and am waiting for it to arrive. In the meantime I saw a thread from 2015 that discussed miniatures ideas. One of the suggestions was to use minis form the out of print Axis & Allies Naval Miniatures game. Apparently the ships from that game are still easy to find, sold individually.

So that I could get a jump on buying the models which are best suited for the game, would I be able to bother any of you for a roster of the models I'd need to buy? IOW, a roster of the ships (or ship classes) that are used in the game? I'll then use that info to go ahead and order what I need. If it works out, I'll certainly let you know how it turns out!

Thx!

I extracted this from the ship minis thread in the Variants section of TCU forums. I think it's what you're looking for:

OK guys

Now, I have no knowledge of the various ship models out there, other than what I’ve read here, but from a purely ship identification point of view the submarine/destroyer types I had in mind were:

Submarines: Royal Navy PORPOISE class (OBERON class - identical in external appearance)
Destroyers: KOTLIN class ASW destroyers (the SKORY class destroyer mentioned in this thread was very similar in size and design).

The logistic fleet units, however, were not specific. The Soviet Navy in the game’s era had a huge fleet of auxiliary classes. The Berezina replenishment ship is a later unit but has the right appearance to serve as the Supply Ship. Some Liberty ships were transferred to Russia during WW2 and continued to serve under new names right into the early/mid 70s and so could fit the bill for the container ships. As Keith’s excellent research has identified that these models exist, they sound ideal.

I hope that helps.

Andy

I ended up buying some of the individual Axis & Allies Naval miniatures from Miniature Market. They're a little big, but look good. Will post a picture after I figure out a way to mount them so they can be played. (I'm not crazy about simply gluing them on top of the markers that come in the game.
