I think this was my favorite faction to paint... I try to make things look realistic and "red" tones are much easier to make it look like actual flesh, heh. =)

Ghouls:

I tried giving a slight two-toned look with the back being a darker red and the underbelly looking more pinkish or like standard flesh... I think I should've gone darker with the red on the back. Oh well... live & learn. =P

Fungi from Yuggoth:

These guys were a PAIN to paint... I admit to getting lazy towards the end of it (please don't pay any attention to the brain cylinder. WHAT brain cylinder???)

Dark Young:

My favorite monsters to paint. I don't know what it was about these guys that was so fun, but painting these guys was so satisfying. I might have ruined my brush trying to blend the tentacle tips, but it was worth it. While Shub-Niggurath's tentacles are blended all the way to black, I kept these a lighter tone so they'd be easier to differentiate from a distance on the map.

Thanks. =) Just the Crawling Chaos next and then the cultists... I don't think there'll be anything special about the blue faction. Pretty standard paint jobs in mind... though I'm looking forward to the Flying Polyps. The Fenris paint job for those is beautiful... definitely looking forward to those. =)

What was the colors you used on these Dark Young? I mean if I was to use GW paints which would you recommend for the different areas?

Hmmm... Kind of a tricky question, but I primarily used Vallejo paints.

I actually wrote all this down and painted test swatches so I could TRY and stay consistent between paint sessions, heh. I highly recommend it for big projects...

Base color (that I used for whole faction): 1/1/1 parts of VGC Beasty Brown/GW Cadian Fleshtone/VGC Scarlett Red

Cool (deepest) shadow: VGC Turquoise (GW Hawke Turquoise should work) mixed with black

Warm shadow: glazed VGC Gold Yellow as transition from darkest shadow

Cool (VERY THIN) glaze (between warm shadows and midtones/highlights): VGC Hexed Lichen

Highlights: VGC Pale Flesh

Tentacle tips: 2/1 ratio of VGC Scarlett Red/black (same color I've used to tip most of the tentacles I've painted in this game)

The hooves was just a base of VGC Beasty Brown with two coats of GW Agrax Earthshade.

I also used some GW Reikland Fleshshade wherever I thought more "red" was needed, like around the main mouth.

Hope that helps...

I really like the realistic style. The best painted versions I've seen so far.

Thank you kindly, Adam. =) Though I'm committed to a more "realistic" style for this game, seeing some of the other paint jobs for these models really has me jealous... so vibrant and pretty. surprise

Thanks for the kind words. =) I wish people would post more of their paint-ups on BGG. It's always inspiring for me to see different takes on technique and color!

How did you get the blacks in the little nooks and crannies?
