For the past 2 days I have been testing out Limelight Networks for image content delivery, and I am looking for feedback on the changes. If anyone is having problems, or issues please let me know.

Also, if you think it's better than the old, then post that too.

Thanks!

I can't say I've noticed a difference... Do you have any old/new examples.
Cheers,
David

For the most part it has been really good. Load times have been significantly reduced in most cases. But I have noticed that this afternoon (Around 2pm PST) images were loading fairly slowly. Hopefully this is just a slight general bog down due to 5pm Friday traffic on the East Coast.

Coincidentally, we upgraded to IE7 here at work a couple of days ago. I had assumed that the lack of images (all wonderful red X's instead) was more due to IE7 than anything. If your changes don't affect the avatars and badges in addition to the images in the database, then I'm still thinking IE7 (or the new security settings here) are the issue, but since you asked.

I can not see them (using Firefox or IE on a PC) with the exception of the ad at the very top of the page (currently Thoughthammer)and geek badges. I can not see any images in any galleries, location flags, avatars, emoticons, etc. I wasn't sure if it was a change on BGG or the system (I never know what the IT people are doing downstairs).

Aldie,

I sent a pm two days ago about this. None of the images are downloading for me. They time out. I get most icons and some badges and the like, but no avatars or pictures. I have cleared my cache and reloaded but no success in receipt of images. Which of course has slowed down the site overall for me as it takes time before the picture download times out and I can move on.

No pics, Dude.

For people missing all images, can you try checking your dns for this server?

on a mac you can type from a terminal:
host media-0.boardgamegeek.com

or on a PC:
nslookup media-0.boardgamegeek.com

I thought I was having problems with my ISP... but pages with lots of images (over 400, like http://boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/10104) have been taking longer than normal

you can type it from the command line.

In windows you can do Windowskey-R (i.e. Run...)

and then type:
cmd

to bring up a command line.

It also has my server and address but I don't think you need that.

No difference. Seems to work fine, though I have noticed an overally slowing down over the past several days (starting, i think, before the image host change).

I have had zero issues with images over the past week.

The "Things I'm Sick Of!" geeklist mentioned loaded in under 10 seconds on my dusty ass Pentium 3, even under a forced refresh of the page and images.

No problems with missing images for me. Here is my dns info

nslookup media-0.boardgamegeek.com
Server: vip1aldlmi.aldl.mi.charter.com
Address: 24.247.15.53

Non-authoritative answer:
Name: brdgmgeek-0.vo.llnwd.net
Address: 68.142.74.84
Aliases: media-0.boardgamegeek.com

The site seems right snappy but as I said, I hadn't noticed nor do I now any difference from the past couple of weeks.

Cheers,
Van

edit: I use Firefox and am @ 2.0.0.3
also tried Internet Exploder 7 and that worked as well for me
no oddness on either.

Oddly, I had to approve the image site for Firefox, even though it is set to load images, and not just from the originating site. But after I put the URL into the image approval list, no problems.

That is the same as I get under non-authoritative answer. But no pictures.

I don't know how your new service is supposed to work Aldie but I was a bit surprised http://68.142.74.84/e1/images/geeksm2.jpg did not seem to work for me.

Reverse lookup seems to be failing...

nslookup 68.142.74.84
Server: vip1aldlmi.aldl.mi.charter.com
Address: 24.247.15.53

DNS request timed out.
timeout was 2 seconds.
*** Request to vip1aldlmi.aldl.mi.charter.com timed-out

Dunno if that is it but curious...
Cheers,
Van

Not even doing a full reload it just took me almost 30 seconds on my 3.0 Ghz Pentium

Could be related to the other issue a bunch of us are seeing with nothing being cached even when using the browsers back button

Just in the last two days I've gotten a few "a script on this page is taking a excessive amount of time to execute" messages on the site, but I don't know if it's related.

Re: Site Images feedback Needed and Offered!
This is what I have noticed. The images on the Home Page opening seem crisper and brighter but I do not know if that is related.

One thing I have noticed is when I go to a comments page or a list, the site had changed. Before the entire image of the site would fit to screen...but now, as of today, I have to use the scroll bar left and scroll bar right to read comments in their entireity. Personally I find it annoying, especially since this was not the case before.

I hope you understand what I am trying to communicate because this is one change I have noticed, and only as of today. This was not the case last night when I was surfing the site.

Be aware that I enjoy this site and visit almost daily. You have done a great job on many of the features, and I have yet to max out on your options. If what you tweaked is related to the fact that the entire screen does not fit when I go into comments I hope you can fix that. I must also add that as I type my reply and when at the home page this is not the case and the site image fits to screen from left to right no scroll bars needed.

I hope this helps.
