I am interested in finding games that have been reimplemented or reborn more than once.

For example, Vlaada Chvatil published Through the Ages: A Story of Civilization in 2006. In 2008, Matt Leacock published Roll Through the Ages: The Bronze Age. In 2014, Tom Lehman published Roll Through the Ages: The Iron Age. That's interesting to me.

Similarly, in 1996, Richard Garfield published Netrunner. In 2008, Daniel Clark and Kevin Wilson published Android. In 2012, Richard Garfield and Lukas Litzinger published Android: Netrunner.

There are a lot of games that have been reimplemented once. What games have been reimplemented or reborn more than once?

However the game android has nothing to do with netrunner and is related to android netrunner in theme only. Completely different game.

Sounds like you are talking more about reusing themese than you are the game itself bases on your examples.

Yup. And it seems really odd to me to post a series of civilization games that doesn't mention the original: Civilization

Other than the theme, is the original Civilization game related to the later Chvatil game?

Chess is surely near the top of the list, with probably thousands of variants, generalizations, etc.

E.g. see the website http://chessvariants.org or search "chess" in BGG's boardgame search box:

No they aren't related.

But then through the ages and roll through the ages aren't related either except by theme.

When I was a kid, late 60's early 70's, a neighbor had this game -

High Spirits with Calvin and the Colonel and it was different than any game I had ever seen. No going around the board and collecting things. Pretty cool, but never saw it again.

Fast forward to board game geek early 2000. Got interested in the games of Sid Sackson and found this game - Buried Treasure

Played and then realized it was a reimplementation of the game I had seen as a kid. And then bought from Germany this game which came between those two - Das Super Blatt.

3 different themes, tweaked each time by Sid Sackson, and a cool history behind it. I have always been intrigued by the progression of games as well.

I imagine it served as inspiration. If not, the inspiration was probably the computer game by Sid Meier, and the inspiration for that was the original board game. Designers and players talk about civ-type games, which are games that trace the rise of civilization using tech trees, trading, disasters, etc. Francis Tresham brought all that to the table, and there's no end in sight.

Not reimplemented, but if by reborn you mean getting multiple printings with significant changes then:

The Fury of Dracula => Fury of Dracula (Second Edition) => Fury of Dracula (Third/Fourth Edition)

Or

Wallenstein (first edition) => Shogun => Wallenstein (second edition)

a good start is to look at pretty much anything published by Überplay. It is VERY unfortunate they went out of business.

Up the Creek (original title is Ogallala) > Up the Creek > Starships > Chaos Marauders > Chaos Marauders (second edition)

Loopin' Louie > Barn Buzzin' Goofy > Bobbin' Bumblebee > Loopin' Chewie

Cosmic Encounter > west end / games workshop edition (1986) > Cosmic Encounter > Simply Cosmic > Cosmic Encounter > Cosmic Encounter

Crude (1974) / McMulti (2 editions) / Crude (Stronghold)

Dungeons & Dragons: Castle Ravenloft Board Game > Dungeons & Dragons: Wrath of Ashardalon Board Game > Dungeons & Dragons: The Legend of Drizzt Board Game > Dungeons & Dragons: Temple of Elemental Evil Board Game

Pandemic > Forbidden Island > Forbidden Desert > Pandemic: In the Lab > Pandemic: The Cure, a case could be made for Defenders of the Realm

For Sale has been published in at least 4 iterations.

Ubongo > Ubongo Extreme > Ubongo: Duel > Ubongo 3-D > Ubongo Trigo > Ubongo: Das Würfelspiel > Ubongo: Star Wars – Das Erwachen der Macht

Carcassone has too many iterations to even consider listing.

Settlers of Catan has many scenario games.

Modern Art > Modern Art: The Card Game > Modern Art: Master's Gallery

Cat & Chocolate > Cat & Chocolate: Business Is Business > Cat & Chocolate: Blooming Days > Texas Zombies

Which Witch? > Haunted House, Ghost Castle > Mr. Creepy's Geisterschloss > The Real Ghostbusters Game

Twilight Imperium changed enough to get multiple entries in the database:

Twilight Imperium > Twilight Imperium (Second Edition) > Twilight Imperium (Third Edition)

Come to think of it, any game that includes both a "Reimplements" and a "Reimplemented By" entry would make the list.
